Siesta is simply an afternoon sleep or nap especially in the hot countries. Your eyes might be wide open but you are resting. This is how the Oxford Dictionary defined it. I could state emphatically that such definition is only limited to the dictionary. There is more to it than just a nap in the afternoon. The Spanish and Mexicans first imbibed this theory of having a rest at the early afternoon. But the question for you is: How often do you sleep in the afternoon considering your schedule? Well I don't know what your answer is, but I do know that we all have different answers.

In South Africa, a set of students accepted that taking a nap in the early afternoon has really enhanced their performance in subsequent examinations and in their study afterwards.
A librarian might take a short sleep in the afternoon just like the illustration above. What matters is not how long, but how often.
Life tends to utilize most of our times and makes us unavailable for certain events and pleasures. Nature has so much fashioned a man in a way that he can remain healthy and happy while attaining her goals gradually with maximum beam. Life is not really what happens to us, but what we do to what happens to us. What gladdens our heart gladdens the creator and what hurts us pleases the devil.
Even today, life will go extra miles for anyone who knows her destination and is willing to pay the price. While I was growing up, my kind father advised me on some of the issues of life. He would say “the world is waiting for that man who's brave and ready”. Though I did not understand the full meaning of that statement which he says everyday especially after meal. But today, I know exactly what he meant. Though he is late now, but his love and kind gestures are fresh in my mind.
When you look at life in its entirety, you would discover that there is a common phenomenon whereby everyone is working tirelessly for money and only few get it. In 2004, I went into a study with a gynecologist of APH institute who took so much interest in this topic; why some individuals achieve more than others.
During the study, about 200 healthy individuals were interviewed. It was discovered that at 80% of them were more successful than others. The 80% that were sound in mind and body as well as financially had something in common which I would highlight later on. And that is what life is all about. The only distinguishing factor between a rich and poor man is like a thin line that only needs to be crossed and not cut. An author wrote that when you are behind, find out why you are there.

Lets cut off the stories and get down to the benefits of siesta. Enjoy it:

- You are always brave to confront circumstances when you take a rest.
- Though your eyes might not be closed, but they are closed to problems of the day.
- Siesta improves the life span of an individual
- It helps in a positive mindset which we all know is the bedrock of any achievement
- Individuals who sleep most especially in the afternoon are gentle and tolerant.
- Siesta provides an avenue for creativity; it does because of relaxed brain.
- It improves the intelligent quotient of a man (I.Q.) and makes them intelligent
- If you are a single parent, siesta strengthens you to run the race ahead of you.
- And if married, it also aids in decision making of the family because when an issue is slept over, solutions emerge.
- It brings fulfillment to a man who is hopeless.
- What more can I say, siesta opens the eyes of your spirit to hear extraordinary voice that would change your life for ever.
- Sometimes, I feel like not waking up from my sofa each time I rest because heaven is opened unto me.
- If you lack zeal, take an afternoon sleep.
- Lacking motivation too, it would help you.
- Having any form of sickness, siesta provides a quick solution. Allow your blood to circulate properly.
