911 Stress

Seven years later the stress caused by 9/11 still causing health problems.

The attacks of 9/11 have left a great deal of American's feeling less than comfortable. I think everyone can remember exactly what they were doing on September 11, 2001. I slept late that morning having stayed up late reading the book, “On Wings of Eagles” by Ken Follett.

I woke up to the news that the World Trade Center and Pentagon had been attacked. At the time I was more worried about the Pentagon because I knew that was a big part of American security. I did not even know where or what the World Trade Center was.

I still get chills thinking about how my mom found out. She was in the kitchen washing dishes like normal and then she heard the first initial report on the radio. She immediately went to the living room and turned on the television. When I woke up my father had turned off the television, neither could watch anymore.

My mom went to work, I went to my room and I turned on the television to see what was going on. It was five minutes before they showed the video that would forever change the face of America. When I saw the first plane hit the WTC I got chills all over, then the second one hit and tears filled my eyes. When I first learned that 30,000 people were usually in that building at that time, I said a long prayer for all of them.

I watched in complete awe as the Towers came down. I cried and prayed a lot. I rejoiced when people were freed from the rubble. I am so proud of the heroes that stepped up that day and every day since.

Remembering that day, the sacrifice and heroism is one of the many reasons that I will never stand in a picket line and say this war is wrong. I support the war, I support the troops and I pray for a peaceful resolution every day and every night.

While I can honestly say that stress based on 9/11 has not happened to me I can see why it would affect other people. Stress and worry can put a lot on your heart. I can try to sit here and tell you that putting your life in God's hands will eliminate stress and worry. While doing that can reduce stress and worry, it goes against human nature to stop worrying completely.

I want to end this posting by saying the following:

  • Pray often and give your worries over to God, it will truly feel better
  • Never forget 9/11; but do not stop living in a healthy manner just because it happened
