Allergy Season: Protect Yourself

Yep its allergy season, are you ready? Here are some tips on how to lessen the effects of allergies during allergy season.

Shampoo/Clean your carpet/furniture often. Or just replace them if you have the money

Carpets and furniture are an excellent source for airborne pathogens. They are warm, sometimes moist, and attract dust and dirt easily. Also if you have pets, try to keep them from walking outside then on your carpets. That just adds to the pollution

Clean AC vents and fans. In the winter, (if you live in a place that gets cold in the winter).

Air conditioners and fans often remain untouched and can accumulate a lot of dust and dirt. This is a major cause of allergies. You can get air conditioners professionally cleaned, which is a wiser decision if you don't know what you are doing. To clean fans, just unscrew each of the fan blades and wipe them off with a damp towel.

Make sure your mattress has been replaced in the past five years

Studies show that a mattress can double in weight due to dust mites and debris from your own body (especially if you do not shower in the night). This can be a cause of allergies while you are sleeping.

                Air purifier/ Fans

Buying an air purifier does work if you buy the right brands. Sharper Image has a great selection on air purifiers. Don't try to be cheap and buy an air purifier that will break after a month. Get your moneys worth and feel allergy free. Make sure you maintain an environment that is not humid. Cool moist air is good for your sinus' and so are products such as the Vicks vapor thing.

Open windows, but make sure you have a screen on them

It is believed that the average house in America is more polluted than the air outside. It is important to bring in the fresh air yet put up a mesh screen to keep insects and debris out.

                      I hope this helps
