Bipolar Disorder or Just Extreme Sleep Deprivation?

I have come to the conclusion, from personal experience, that sleep deprivation can trigger behavior mirroring that of bi-polar disorder.

I have come to the conclusion, from personal experience that sleep deprivation can trigger behavior mirroring that of bi-polar disorder. In the last few months I had begun getting less and less sleep. I am now on a natural sleep supplement and it has worked wonders,

Where before I was easily irritable and angry, I have learned to better let things flow.

I am also sleeping a regular 8 hour night like a human being is supposed to.

Before there were jokes going around in the family circle that I was behaving like a vampire, staying up for days on end. I now write during the day and am in bed by 10 pm each night.

The negative effects of sleep deprivation are seen quite clearly if you know what to look for.

Sleep deprivation can cause all sorts of problems from sleep disorders to delirium in extreme cases.(this was proved especially true in regards to soldiers)

It is vastly believed that a soldier on the field who has suffered extreme sleep deprivation is more likely to suffer nightmares and disorientation. I also believe that Post Traumatic Stress disorder can be made worse by sleep deprivation.

The longer the sleep deprivation, the more acute the symptoms. Sleep deprivation can also put a strain on the muscles, the heart and other vitals. I was told if you go 11 straight days without sleep, when you finally do sleep, you won't wake up.

Before people go scoffing at that idea, let me explain why it's a logical assumption.

The body needs between 6-8 hours minimum of sleep a night. Going 11 straight days without sleep is the equivilent of 264 hours. The body needs to recharge, like a battery, if it isn't recharged, it does not function to its fullest potential.

A battery that doesn't recharge eventually dies, our bodies were designed in a similar fashion.

Even a rechargeable battery eventually wears out, but energy deprivation(or in the case of the body, sleep deprivation) speeds up that process.

With that said dear ones, if your body tells you its tired, Sleep!

Sleep deprivation causes many problems and is easily remedied but you need to know that is the cause first! Great article.
