Most people have had an energy drink, and with more and more coming out, people are starting to realize the real price of the drinks is not just $5.00 for a small can, but there is a bigger issue.
1. Jitters
Jitters, as I like to call them, is the first burst of energy that you recive from drinking an energy drink. Some people don't have this problem; that is why I consider it more of a "side-effect" of drinking energy drinks.
Symptoms
- Nerves on edge
- Shaking
- Loss of ability to concentrate
2. Heart Rate
Monster has just released a new 32oz. can. At the bottom it reads "BFC".
Side note: My nine year old neighbor was able to figure out what that meant, and wouldn't stop saying it.
Your heart rate can increase extremely from these drinks, and with this new 32oz. Where does it stop? Heart attacks are on the rise with all the new energy drinks. Which feeds this section into the next part which is death.
Symptoms
- Chest pain
- Hot feeling in your face (even if you are sitting still)
- Jitters
3. Death
I wouldn't lie. Yes there are cases in which teens have died from energy drinks. There is no age limit in which to purchase them, but many stores are placing a limit on the amount that you are allowed to purchase at one time. The infamous "Cocaine" is when the deaths started appearing. Many rumors about the company having to change its name have circulated, but I can still walk into the store and see the same can sitting in the fridge.
4. Crash
Sometimes you have a clean burst of energy that carries you through, but in the end the story usually ends the same.
When the energy goes away you don't feel relaxed. Many people get sick in the "Crash Phase". Your energy will be gone, which makes you think that another energy drink is what you need. When you reach for that next can though you are going to go thought the same cycle.
Warnings/Symptoms
- Vomiting
- Heavy Eyes
- Headaches
5. Advertising
Cocaine, "BFC", and others, most teens find these names entertaining. Would you want you child having "Cocaine"? Or how about when they find out what "BFC" really stands for? They are pressing the buttons on teens that make them feel like they are doing something wrong, which, in turn, makes them want the drinks even more. A shiny blue bottle, with an orange top, in the shape of a bottle of Nitros. To any teen that has seen "The Fast and the Furious" movies or played "Need for Speed" that is like a toy with a drink. How are they to know what could happen? With musical artist throwing up huge gallons of their energy drinks, it makes teens think that it is safe to consume huge amounts.
Solution
- Get a good night sleep
- Eat healthy
- Exercise
This is not "cutting edge" information. This is the same stuff that we have been hearing forever. If we all lived by it we wouldn't need to drink all these drinks, which sometimes don't even work.
