Sometimes it seems like there just isn't enough time in the day to get all you need done. By the time you get to the less important things (and even some of the priorities) you just run out of steam. When a trip to the Doctor ensures that all is well and there are no health issues, then you're left wondering why some folks seem to have no problems doing as much and more than you are and still seem to have energy left over. Is it possible that you are missing some information? Do those people know something you don't know? Are they on drugs?
Of course, anything is possible, but there are natural, healthy ways to increase your energy levels without making huge changes to your lifestyle or sacrificing your precious time. In fact, you may find that you end up with time to spare once you are more energetic. These small changes can increase your vitality, make you stronger and give you the capability to do everything you need and want to. All you have to do is make a conscious choice to modify your routine, don't put it off.
Sleep
Your body needs the proper amount of rest (approximately six to ten hours depending on age and activity levels) in order to heal itself, and function properly. If you are having trouble sleeping you need to find out why. Do you go to sleep at the same time each night? Do you take naps on the couch or sleep in places other than your bed? Do you use your bed for activities such as reading, or watching television? Are there just too many things on your mind that keep you from your rest?
If you answered yes to the first three questions, then it may be a good idea to change your sleeping habits. When you feel a doze coming on, head for the bed, yes, even for short cat naps. Try to keep the other activities out of the bed and be sure to go to bed at the same time each night, getting up at the same time each morning. This might be tiring at first, but as you get into the habit you will soon notice the benefits. If you are a shift worker it is much more difficult but possible to make a bed time routine for each shift you are on.
When it seems like your mind just won't shut off, sometimes you have to let the thoughts play themselves out. You cannot force this process, only lay back, close your eyes, relax, and let your mind do what it must. This way, there is no conscious effort as there would be if you lay there worrying about the time, or trying to count sheep. Your body will rest and your brain will work itself out.
Exercise
This might seem odd if you are already too tired to get through your whole day, but, it really works. Exercise makes us stronger, more resistant to stress, and gives us vitality. It will also help to clear the mind and will very likely bring you that much needed rest your body is craving. You may need help to get started, an energetic buddy or a workout partner can help keep you motivated. You will be surprised how twenty minutes a day, a couple times a week will change your energy level for the better.
Nutrition
Eating whole, natural foods from all four food groups in the proper amounts, will keep you healthy and fit. Cutting down on red meat may also help quite a bit as it is difficult to digest. Be sure to eat breakfast, it is also better to eat several small meals in a day (five or six) instead of three big ones. This will keep your energy level on an even keel throughout the day and prevent cravings for those energy stealing junk foods.
When the little things seem to take all of your effort and there is so much you still would like to do, try making these small alterations, and see how fast your energy levels rise. Always listen to your body, it will give you most of the information you need and try to keep an upbeat attitude. happiness and a positive outlook has it's own energy.
