Olive Oil Can Soothe Dry, Chapped Skin

Skin endures a lot from the changing seasons, working conditions, and from the nourishment that a person takes in each day. If you have dry, chapped skin and you have tried everything on the market you can think of to soothe your skin without success, try olive oil for instant relief.

Olive oil has long been used in Mediterranean cooking, for fuel in oil lamps and much more. Olive oil is more than just a salad dressing or a useful ingredient that can help to combat and prevent coronary heart disease. Olive oil can also be used to treat dry skin.

Any Variety Will Do

Many hand and body lotions make exaggerated claims about their effectiveness and produce few, if any, noticeable results. But by the time you see for yourself that the lotions and potions have not worked, you have already spent your money on costly heath and beauty products that promise amazing, miraculous results, without doing what they claimed. But olive oil is different. No matter whether you choose refined or extra virgin olive oil, when it comes to helping to soothe dry, chapped skin, any variety can be used to achieve the desired results.

Drizzle Oil Into a Running Bath

Olive oil can be drizzled into a running bath for instant relief of dry, chapped skin or used sparingly on problem areas such as the elbows or elsewhere where there are dry patches of skin. But before you dash off to buy a $20 bottle of olive oil, consider a cheaper alternative. Choose a more economical olive oil such as Extra Virgin Olive Oil & Pure Soybean Oil by Nature's Ideal, an Argentinean brand of oil, starting at $1.49 for a 500ml bottle instead.

If you choose to use olive oil to soothe dry, chapped skin while you are taking a bath, use only a very small amount, otherwise you will find yourself soaking in an oil slick and the slippery water can be a danger hazard as you try to get out. Just a few drops of olive oil in the running water is all that is required to coat the whole body and bring instant, noticeable changes to the texture of the skin. When you get out of the bath, make sure thoroughly dry your skin to remove any remnants of the olive oil so that it does not stain your clothes or leave your skin feeling oily.
