Quit Smoking: Five Withdrawal Tips

Have you ever felt like it's time for you to quit smoking and make a 180-degree change in your lifestyle?

Smoking is very rampant nowadays, even among teenagers. Smoking is an addiction -- a very deadly addiction. Tobacco smoke contains alkaloids nicotine and harmane, two drugs, which, when combined, becomes an addictive stimulant with euphoriant properties. In effect, making smoking very hard, but not impossible, to quit.

Quitting smoking requires self-discipline and determination of the individual -- a sole participation and willingness to get rid of the addiction. There are actually many ways to get rid of smoking addiction. In fact, the market has already produced a lot of drugs for it, and one commonly used is Champix (Verenicline). This is a much faster way to get rid of the addiction, but you may never know the side-effects of these drugs.

Other people though, prefer the natural ways even if it takes much more time than taking a gulp of pill or tablet. As they say, "Slowly, but surely" is the best way. Now, let's count the ways of naturally getting rid of smoking addiction.

  1. Change to Lighter Brands

It is a common knowledge that some brands have higher dosage of nicotine that others. One way to start the downgrade process of smoking addiction is to change your current brand to lighter brands, especially to heavy smokers. Things will be different, from the taste to the satisfaction it gives you; but I bet, it's worth the sacrifice.
  2. Less is More

If you're the type of smoker who can smoke more than 1 pack of cigarette a day, now is the time to develop a strategy for downgrading smoking addiction. You can start by smoking, let's say, instead of 2 packs a day, try 1 and 1/2 packs a day for 3-6 months. After 6 months, you can try having 1 pack a day, up until you despise even the smell of it. Aside from the fact that you could benefit on this financially, you are actually on your positive way to a healthy lifestyle.
  3. Find Positive Alternatives

There are different reasons why people smoke. Some would say to get rid of this after-taste effect of certain food substances, while others would say to lose weight. If you're familiar with the "Constantine" movie, the actor actually found chewing gum as his alternative to smoking. It's very possible to apply this in real life. There are actually different alternatives available for each individual, just be very creative.
  4. Try Breathing Techniques

As we all know, temptation is very hard to resist because it targets our weaknesses. There are people in which even the smell of a cigarette makes their mouth water. In order to resist such temptation, you can try different breathing techniques -- meditation is a good example. Breathing Techniques also clears your air passages of harmful chemicals brought to you by smoking.
  5. Exercise

One way to downgrade the process of smoking addiction is to exercise. You can actually try a simple walking for 15-30 minutes, 3 times a day just to shake off that toxins roaming around your blood streams. It is common knowledge how beneficial a simple exercise is to our body and also to us. Exercise needs not to be mundane, you can use your creativity to make it playful and enjoyable in a way while you reap the benefits of being a healthy and smoke-free individual.
