The Cucumber and Its Health Benefits

We always hear people say that cucumbers are very good for our skin. It is used to reduce eye bags around our eyes. It relaxes and freshens. Aside from those, the cucumber has more to offer than you know.

Cucumber is an important health food. It provides a very healthy juice beneficial for increasing the flow of urine. For rheumatic conditions, it complements the effects of celery and carrot juice. Its juice is a soothing skin lotion. In fact, it is the best skin lotion. The peel, like lemon peel, is good to be used on the hands most especially after it's been in a strong detergent or in a very hot water.

Cucumber is a member of the Cucurbitaceous family, like melon, squash and pumpkins, which is very high in water and very low in calories. Its scientific name is “cucumis sativus”. It is an excellent source of potassium, vitamin C and folic acid.

Cucumber is good for those who are dieting as it is very low in calories. It has a cleansing action within the body by removing accumulated pockets of old waste material and chemical toxins. It helps eliminate uric acid so it is good for those who has arthritis. Its juice is a nourishing vitamin for our hair and skin. It is also a good rejuvenator and makes us feel and look younger.

Cucumber can be eaten unpeeled with a dip, can be added to your favorite salad or sandwich, burger or to your favorite vegetables. When buying cucumber, take note that it should be dark green in color, it is an indication that it is still fresh.

Cucumber is also good to reduce heat and inflammation. It is very useful to treat tired eyes and remove the eye bags under your eyes by placing a slice of cucumber over closed eyes.. It also helps lung, stomach and chest problems, gout, and tapeworm. Fresh cucumber juice is good to reduce heartburn or sooth stomach acid, also for those suffering from gastritis or ulcer.

Its fiber-rich skin and their levels of potassium and manganese helps regulate blood pressure and help promote nutrient functions. Its the dietary fibers regulate cholesterol level and support bowel regularity. Its magnesium content relaxes nerves and muscles and keeps blood circulating smoothly.

It\'s true about cucumbers stated in the article. I usually munch on cucumbers as a snack & I notice my facial skin looks hydrated a few hours later. I certainly cannot live without cucumbers!!

I think it's Cucurbitaceae, not Cucurbitaceous... and the proper way to write a scientific name is to have the to have the first letter of the genus capitalized, and the whole scientific name (Genus species) italicized or underlined.

I just made some cucumber tahini bites! Just sliced some cucumbers and spread some tahini on them (actually made little sandwiches with the slices). My eyes feel really open (in more ways than one.) :)
