Colour
Normally it's pinkish. However, it will turn yellowish if you frequently apply nail color and use polish remover.
Flexibility
Press the tip of your nail. Ideally your nail should be able to bend a bit. It your nail is soft and bends too easily it is an unhealthy sign.
Smoothness
Look at them from the side; if your nails appear to have scratches it's time for nail rejuvenation.
Surrounding Skin
If the skin around your nail is dry and coarse, take some time off to massage and pamper the area to keep it moisturized and soft.
Unhealthy Signs
Paleness
Pale nails indicate chronic lack of blood or problematic liver or kidney function.
White Spots
Means lack of zinc. Increase intake of seafood, spinach, mushroom, cereals, sunflower seeds and such.
Brittle
More iron required. Take more green, leafy vegetables, fish, nuts, cereals and the likes.
Too Yellowish
A sign of insufficient vitamin E or functional disorder of the lymphatic system or respiratory system. Green, leafy vegetables and fruits are good sources of vitamin E.
Uneven Nails
Lined nails can be related to liver dysfunction.
