WHY GO Generics?

Facts: Majority of the population go for branded medicines. As a result, indigent people are left with no choice. Not anymore folks. I’m conferring here the use of Generic Drugs.

Nothing against the big companies

Nope. I'm not against these businesses. As a matter of fact, I salute them for generating employment and manufacturing medicines for ailment suppressions. What I'm in opposition to is the incomplete conveying of the pros and cons in using medicines.

World Health Organization (WHO)

The World Health Organization (WHO), an agency of the United Nations (UN) who acts as a coordinating authority on international public health is listing drugs that offer the most vital to the health of people. These they call the Essential Drugs. But I'm not discussing it here. I'm after the dissemination of the Generic Drugs.

What is Generics?

Generic is NOT having a brand name of. It is the identification of drugs and medicines by its scientifically renowned active ingredients.

Why Go Generics?

In buying medicines, the active ingredient for the claimed therapeutic effect is the most important part to take into consideration. Going generics will also provide awareness to the health professionals about the scientific basis in the usage of drugs, its benefits, efficacy hence minimizing duplication in medications. On the other hand, being price-friendly is also one of the main reason.

Are generic drugs effective?

100% yes. As said earlier, it is in the chemical component of the active ingredient where the curative effect lies. In view of the contrasting few, using generics may mean using bogus medicine as claimed. Maybe true in some ways, but proliferation of fake medicines is also rampant in the branded ones. This is more dangerous because people usually are mesmerized by the costly advertisement that promotes branded medicines as very effective if compared to generic drugs.

How then to distinguish quality generic drugs?

The labels shall have the name and country of manufacture and the dates of manufacture and expiration. The drugs shall duly be certified by the health agency of the government. Although these are just three of the assurances, the consuming public is also advised to be vigilant and participate in reporting any suspected counterfeited drugs whether branded or generic.

May I reiterate…

I'm not against the branded medicines. I'm just updating the public about the law on generics. Yes, there is a law that ensures the use of generic medicines.

Indigent or not, the choice is yours.
