British scientists in London believe that they may have developed a birth control pill that will work for men.
Two medications that have already been in use has been combined to create this contraceptive. One of these medications is used to treat high blood pressure, while the other is used for schizophrenia.
The combination of these two medications temporarily block the body from releasing sperm during sexual intercourse. The pill would affect contraction of the muscles that control ejaculation. In other words it would be a dry ejaculation.
This would be able to be done without hormones and without interfering with performance of the orgasm sensation.
The pill does not stop the production of sperm, it just stops it from going anywhere for a little while. Once the pill wears off, the sperm will once again be on the move.
Researchers say that once a man has taken the pill, he has to wait several hours for it to work. The effects of the pill, would last for around twenty-four hours.
Researchers claim that the pill would be easier than other contraceptive methods for men such as injections, implants, condoms or even a vasectomy.
The pill for men won't be on the market for about four to five years.
