Hair loss can be a sore spot for many guys, especially guys who tend to be a little vain in regards to their appearance. And I can lump myself into that category. While I'm never going to give Brad Pitt or George Clooney anything to worry about in the looks department, I would like to hold onto any attractiveness that I do possess. I think that's only natural; we all want to look our best. But something has been happening to me over the last few years to cause me some concern: My forehead has gotten a wee bit bigger than it used to be. This is something that has started gradually, and at first I really didn't notice it. It was only after I viewed an old photograph taken of me - a picture of me when I was about twenty-four - that I realized things were changing! I noticed that my hairline used to be much lower on my forehead, and my temples used to be completely covered with hair. Damn genetics.
I know many guys couldn't care less about losing their hair. And that's great! And, I know many guys that actually look pretty good with a bald head, but that ain't me! I like having my head covered with hair. I love going to the barbershop and getting my haircut - it's so relaxing and feels to good! And, I've always felt that I had pretty nice hair; it's thick and wavy, and for a guy who is average looking, I have to hold onto every advantage I have. So, I vowed to fight my hair loss. I marched down to the doctor's office and requested a prescription for Propecia, which is one of only two FDA-approved hair-loss medications; the other being Rogaine, which is a topical liquid or foam, but that's a little messy and cumbersome to use, so I stick with Propecia for the time being. Propecia started out as a medication used to treat enlarged prostates, but a funny thing happened to many guys who were using it: many of the balding men started to regrow hair.
So, anyone who is serious about combating their hair-loss and fighting it as best you can, I would highly recommend visiting your doctor for a Propecia prescription. One of the big advantages of Propecia is its ease of use: You simply take one pill every day at the same time of day. And hope for the best! I have been on Propecia for over a year now, and I can honestly say that my hair-loss and/or receding hairline hasn't gotten any worse. In fact, it's possible that my hair has gotten a little bit thicker along the way. Even before starting Propecia, my hair-loss wasn't very advanced. It was mostly my hairline and temple areas that were showing some recession, and that hasn't progressed any further. So, I feel good in that I took a big step in trying to prevent, and even reverse, what little hair-loss I had. And that brings me to another point.
It's better to start a hair-loss treatment plan as soon as possible. There's no reason to wait and delay in the hopes that things will just improve on their own. Whether a treatment works or doesn't work, you will never find out until you try. I started treatment very early, and I believe that has helped me stay way ahead of the game. And, remember, in the battle against hair-loss, keeping the hair that you have now is a success. If you can halt your hair loss and prevent its progression, you are winning the battle. And if you happen to regrow hair, that's a bonus!
