Understanding and treating depression is a key strategy for one's wellness. Depression is one of the most unwelcomed gests of our minds. There are several strategies that should be considered in battle with depression.

This is typical statement of a person who has contact with someone who is depressed. In fact about 10 percent of adults are dealing with depression. There are many reasons for someone who is experiencing this illness. Three key factors contributing to depression are:
- Genetic factor
- Chemical imbalance
- Present stress that a person is experiencing.
Each of these categories has multiple other categories which contribute to illness. Some are controllable, while others aren't as much. Genetic factor is not controllable. If someone in family has history of illness it's logical that another relative or child will have same problem.
Chemical imbalance is somewhat controllable factor. It is often controlled by using medication for treating depression. Some medications are better than others depending on type of persons needs. Depression is often treated by combination of necessary actions rather than single strategy.
Dealing with stress is more often controllable cause of depression. It is a stress that a person is experiencing now. It could be loss of loved one, pain, loss of job, job stress etc...
There are many ways to treat depression. One should consider multiple strategies. Some of them are put self in positive mindset, thinking about happy memory from childhood, thinking about sex, go for a jog or bike ride, watch funny movie, read or do something productive or creative. Besides practicing this way one should eat properly and right amount and get proper sleep.
Depression is unwelcomed guest of our minds. Learning about it and taking necessary steps are key strategies in treating it. Most of us are exposed to everyday stress but can learn to deal with it. Let's look at the bright side. Glass should be half full.
