Physical Symptoms of Anxiety and Depression

How physical symptoms of anxiety and depression are experienced.

Depression often afflicts its victims with emotional symptoms, but did you know that physical symptoms of depression can be felt, as well? Emotional and physical symptoms share a close connection when it comes to how depression is experienced.

Emotional and Physical Symptoms of Anxiety and Depression

Someone suffering from depression has much to contend with. Imagine feeling emotional and physical manifestations of an illness that is difficult to actually see. Physical symptoms of anxiety and depression are often mistaken for a host of other conditions that can be experienced at any given time by a number of people. It may be helpful to examine the range of these symptoms to gain a better understanding of how anxiety and depression affect the mind and body.

Imagine how challenging life might feel for someone thinking or obsessing about a stressful topic, someone who feels restless or dizzy or who has difficulty concentrating. A person experiencing anxiety may feel tense and jittery, be overly cautious and startle easily. Impending danger or disaster might be perceived. These feelings can be especially troubling for someone who suffers from anxiety.

When discussing anxiety and depression, other physical symptoms may make an appearance.

  1. Headaches are a common occurrence for many people, but these can also be indicative of or associated with depression.
  2. Oddly enough, muscle aches, and chest and back pain may also be part of the depression package. In fact, depression can make any kind of chronic pain worse.
  3. Digestion problems can result in nausea or “butterflies in the stomach” and more distressing still, can precipitate or contribute to diarrhea or chronic constipation.
  4.  Appetite and weight may also undergo changes.
  5. These conditions may be combined with sleeping problems that fail to alleviate fatigue and exhaustion.

Physical symptoms of depression can present mountain-like obstacles to functioning for the sufferer.

It is believed that these symptoms stem from chemical imbalances in the brain. Different chemical imbalances have been linked to physical symptoms of anxiety and depression.

Treatment Approaches

Different treatment approaches are available, ranging from conventional methods, using medication and talk or psychotherapy, to natural remedies that some believe present fewer side effects. These treatments may be helpful in relieving anxiety and depression, physical symptoms and emotional challenges that tamper with quality of life.

Researchers have found that in many cases, nutritional supplements can help to bring about a reduction in symptoms. Physical symptoms of depression don't have to make life miserable. But, it may be wondered, how and why do supplements work?

Natural remedies work to correct deficiencies, helping to improve neurotransmitter and nervous system functioning.

  • Valerian--for restlessness and anxiety-induced sleep disorders and depression
  • Chamomile--known to promote rest and used to treat insomnia, anxiety, indigestion and nausea
  • Green Tea--containing many beneficial ingredients and used to improve cognitive performance
  • Ginkgo Biloba--for concentration and mental clarity
  • B6--used in the treatment of depression

These natural preparations are beneficial for treatment of physical symptoms of anxiety and depression.

Remember, help is available for anxiety and depression and physical symptoms don't have to take a toll.
