Seven Ways to Cope Up with Chronic Anxiety

Are you suffering from chronic anxiety? Here are seven ways to cope up with the most worrying factors in today's modern world.

Are you worried about your family? Your health? Worried whether your new boss will like you or not? Worried about losing your job? People who often find themselves caught up in a train of worrisome thoughts are generally suffering from chronic anxiety or Generalized Generalized Anxiety Disorder (GAD.)

Chronic Anxiety is caused by a genetic glitch in the brain chemistry. While most of us come up with a constructive solution to a particular problem, a person suffering from chronic anxiety will find it very difficult to put out even a little worry, the brain chemistry wont let him have his way! The more he ignores his worries the more the symptoms get worse. This leads to self medication like smoking and excessive drinking or even consuming drugs pushing them into a clinical depressive state.

Chronic Anxiety, as studies suggest, can triple the risk of heart attack, even increases the risk of cancer. In other words, it affects every system of your body leading to lower back pain, sexual dysfunction, shortness of breath and stroke.

The reason behind people suffering from chronic anxiety today may be indirectly linked to the media. Newspapers warn us that we are to be mugged; glamorous models in magazines show us up as fat. In fact the media reminds us daily that we haven't saved enough money, our kids are in peril, personal records are being hacked etc etc etc.

It is not at all easy to beat chronic anxiety; however here are some ways to trigger your brains chemistry in a more positive way:

  1. Have a Hearty Breakfast

A balanced breakfast with some protein will make your day. If your usual breakfast is coffee and toast, have a poached egg, a little fruit along with your coffee. This will keep your blood sugar more stable and will make you less irritable.
  2. Exercise

A good workout at the gym alters your brain chemistry by adjusting hormones, oxygen and other transmitters that nourish your brain. Even a quick burst of exercise by running up and down the stairs relieves anxiety. A half an hour exercise should keep anxiety at bay
  3. Save

Building cash reserves helps you to relieve stress since people worry about money the most.
  4. Consider Medication

Selective Serotonin Reuptake Inhibitors (SSRI's) like Prozac can be a boon for a person suffering from GAD, but some doctors say that medication alone is not enough to beat chronic anxiety.
  5. A Dialogue With God

Studies suggest that meditation and prayer can rebalance the brain chemistry. Start with a five minutes prayer every morning and evening this will halt the wheel of worry and make you feel more positive.
  6. Keep a Diary

Keep a “Gratitude diary” at the end of every day listing the things for which you are really grateful :start writing about the positive things that happened in your life such as writing about the kind words you've said today, about the friend who brought you flowers, the baby who opened his eyes and looked at the world for the first time.
  7. Talk About Your Worries

Never worry alone! That is the key to all worry management. Seek for a solution and have a discussion with your friend or a relative. Even a dose of human contact will relieve your worries.

Useful comments. I wonder if worrying and anxiety is something we learn to do because our parents do it. Over-protecting children is as bad as not protecting them enough, I think. A well-presented article.
