A quick quiz to determine whether your relationship with sugar is an abusive or a healthy one. |
- Do you eat at least one item containing refined sugar most days?
- Do you suffer from "sugar lows" or energy troughs in the afternoons?
- Do you prefer to eat sweet and sugary foods over healthier options?
- Do you have a private stash of chocolate, lollies or other sugary food items?
- Do you commonly eat lollies or chocolates when you feel sad or stressed?
- Do you often find yourself craving sweet foods after lunch or dinner?
- Do you frequently skip breakfast?
- Women, do you find yourself feeling like a sugar "victim" at certain times of the month?
- Do you go out of your way to satisfy a sugar craving, like going out specifically to buy a chocolate bar?
- Do you find it hard to control yourself when faced with sugary options?
If You Answered Yes To:- 1 to 3 questions: You and sugar are friends with benefits. No abusive relationship here, you are companions who can live without each other if necessary.
- 4 to 6 questions: Not bad, you can enjoy a sugar hit but you are in control of your consumption. You do need to keep an eye on food items that contain added sugar, and you also need to be aware of the kinds of things that set off your cravings.
- 5 to 10 questions: Sugar dominates your diet. You really need to watch your sugar intake and try to control your cravings and what triggers them. Investigate your diet and perhaps even seek the assistance of a dietician who can help you add other foods to your diet that can help with your sugar dependency.
