As more foods become processed it is becoming more difficult to choose what foods are good. A resent study has shown that just about all processed foods are unhealthy. That is because they have a list of more than five ingredients many of which have to do with preserving and coloring the food. These ingredients have no food value. Many of the processed foods will have statements like containing a low amount of cholesterol, which is not dangerous in itself as compared to the presence of the biochemical in the blood.
Lately there have been revisions of what dangerous substances are in foods. Years ago I would find mentions of unsaturated fats as key in buying fat containing foods. That was changed to a mention of trans fats as being the culprit. So one can see there is always something else that processed food markets will come up with to attract buyers when common sense tells you that people should avoid fats altogether because of the obesity problem on the rise no matter whether foods contain no trans fats or not.
Governments unfortunately have to suck up to businesses especially when it comes to cutting their business profits. Such was the case thirty years ago when an announcement of red meat as being dangerous alarmed the meat industry. Then the government revised their warning to an ineffectual statement that eating meat with more unsaturated fat that would be more beneficial. Today people are still eating red meat which if not lean are high in unsaturated fat. Obesity, heart disease and diabetes have been linked to this fat. Eventually it is hoped that the health system will not be able to cope with rising illnesses
Due to saturated fats thus forcing this industry to produce other meats or get off the market. This is how cigarette industries were put on the run but the unfortunate thing is that we would have to wait for a crisis to occur in the our coping with a larger than manageable disease rate that will warrant a legislation against the red meat industry.
In a recent interview on the foods to choose in a supermarket, it was suggested that buyers concentrate on the periphery of the store since this is where there are more natural foods and processed foods are largely in the center. The buyer should also frequent open-air markets as much as possible for fresh fruits and vegetables.
