Coconut Oil and Its Amazing Health Benefits

Coconut oil has been called "the healthiest oil on earth" in recent studies and research.

In the past, coconut oil had received negative publicity because of its high content in saturated fat. In fact, the reason for its bad evaluation was: studies had been done on hydrogenated coconut oil, which tainted from its original form.

However, recent research shows that not all saturated fats are alike. The fatty acids in coconut oil are very healthy, since they do not contribute in raising serum cholesterol, which cause heart disease. The virgin coconut oil proves to have many nutritional and medicinal benefits.

Dr. Mary Enig, a nutritionist/biologist and is one of the world's leading researchers in oils and fats, identified the key ingredient in coconut oil as lauric acids, which is high in medium chain fatty acids triglycerides. It is believed that beside coconut oil, mother milk is the only other source that has a high content of lauric acids.

Coconut oil has been used in Asia, India, Africa, South and Central America for many centuries, and it is known as "The Tree of Life". Furthermore, coconut oil has been called the "healthiest dietary oil on earth."

I've used coconut oil before when health recipes (like The Maker's Diet) called for it, but didn't know all the benefits. After this article I'm thinking I should go back to it. They do even sell it at WalMart these days, which helps because it's expensive. Another great article, Icy!

Useful information Icy. We used to use coconut oil to cook with in South America. At a time when the President had banned imports, coconut oil was the only thing to use. I also knew Indians there who put it in their hair. It made it a tad oily, but it promotes healthy scalp and healthy growth.
