Eating Organically

Is there really any harm in eating non-organic food?

The number one reason most people don't eat organic foods is because of the high costs, but I challenge you to compare the pro's and cons of eating organically.

Are you aware of the number of chemicals you are putting into your body not considering all the chemicals that the food factories add once the product arrives at their company? You may be amazed at how non organic foods affect your body!

Farmers who produce non organic food have one thing on their mind when farming. They want to produce a large amount by using an easy way. They use a lot of pesticides and hormones which are definitely not good for your body. If you think about what pesticides are for, which is KILLING insects, think about this...If this chemical which you are eating will kill bugs with a small amount, over a period of say 10 years you have ingested a large amount and it does have affects on your body! If the chemical is made to kill then obviously that's what it does! It may not kill you right away as it does insects however it has very huge negetive affects on your body and everything inside your body!

For instance the EPA (Enviromental Protection Agency) considers 60% of all herbicides (weed killers), 90% of all fungicides (mold killers), and 30% of all insecticides (insect killers) as potentially cancer causing. Those are some pretty high numbers which means pretty high chances that you are putting very bad chemicals into your body every time that you eat a non organic food! The other aspect is if you consider how young our children are physically maturing, becoming overweight, and getting sick you can see that these things have increased really fast! If you consider the fact that 100 years ago they did not use pesticides and we humans were not maturing faster, or becoming sick as often, and cancer was not as big of an issue then as it is now. There must be a link between the two!

Food and water are basically the only two things that we put into our body, and when you put something in your body it affects absolutely every organ in your body. As I said before pesticides are meant to kill, so isn't it a good assumption that by putting these chemicals into your body they will essentially kill you! I can pretty much guarantee that the amount you put into your body by eating a non organic apple will not kill you right away, but the build up of these chemicals could potentially lead to your death!

Now that you know how non organic foods can potentially harm you lets look at the benefits of organic foods. I would like to put some negative things about organic foods as well, but there doesn't seem to be any, except possibly the cost.

Here are just some of the benefits of organic food:

Organic farmers take the farming approach in a completely different way. They do not use chemicals to raise their crops or animals therefore by eating organic food you are not putting those harmful chemicals into your body.

Organic farmers do not pollute our water supply with harmful chemicals because they don't use any!

Organic farmers rebuild our soil by not using chemicals!

Organic producers respect our environment and preserve our natural habitats. They allow their animals to run and eat as nature intended!

And last but certainly not least Organic food tastes wonderfully! It is completely pure exactly the way nature intended!!

I know that organic food does cost more than non organic food, however there is a reason for this. That reason is the fact that because farmers are not using chemicals which would allow them to produce a lot more food by chemically altering their crop/animals. Because they can't produce as much, they have to charge more for what they have. They make up for their loss of quantity by their quality of the food they do produce. If you actually do a price check between organic and non organic food you will find that most organic food is only a few cents more expensive than your less healthy option, for instance in Iowa a carton of non-organic eggs costs $1.88 and a carton of organically farmed eggs costs $2.18 so as you can see the difference is $0.40, I would say that it's worth the 40 cents to keep my family healthy. I know that this is only an example and there are some foods that are quite a bit more expensive, but even if you only replace some of your food choices you will be helping your family out a lot by reducing the amount of chemicals they intake.

The other benefit of buying organic foods is that you are usually supporting local farmers! That makes a huge difference in helping out our world! Would you rather support the companies or farmers of our country or those that are paid literally pennies in other countries?

This article is mostly my opinion however the statistical information comes from nutiva.com and epa.gov.
