For 2 years now, I have been a constant drinker of the Monster Energy Drink. I have been warned by family, teachers, and friends that it is an unhealthy habit. I agreed at first, but when I started noticing the effects it had on my mentality and my physical shape, I did not take their opinions into account.
Sure, Monster, and a number of other energy drinks include high amounts of Sugar and Caffeine. The sugar is what you would expect to mess with your physical well being, which is why I need to start by saying this... Almost all energy drinks have a SUGAR FREE version that provides the same kick.
Aside from the sugar and caffeine, energy drinks contain a number of healthy vitamins. These include and are not limited to:
- Vitamin b12
- Ginseng
- Carnitine
- Vitamin b6
- Riboflavin
These vitamins all provide part of the "kick" or "buzz" of these energy drinks, but I think they have other uses too.
Remember how I said that I've been drinking these drinks for 2 years? One thing I failed to mention was the effects it had on me during those 2 years. As a Sophomore in high school, I pulled off a C average. During winter break, I discovered Monster and was instantly hooked. For my final semester, I was almost a B average. Upon my completion of my Junior year, I was at a high B average (At that point I was having an energy drink almost every day).
This summer, I have consumed a Low Carb Monster Energy Drink every day almost. I have lost almost 15 pounds in the last 2 months, which for my age is a lot. For the record I am not fat. I am 6 foot 1, very skinny and weigh 160 pounds.
So the big question. Are they healthy or not? I would say that If you consume the one that's right for your body, and you don't abuse, you will have no health problems, and may even benefit.
I drink Red Rain and Monster drinks almost everyday. No complains.
