Some of our most prominent scientists and inventors were vegetarian and so were some or our Nobel Laureates, this we must assume could have something to do with their diets. We know that some misbehavior in children can be directly attributed to their diet and we must therefore consider the possibility that the diet has some effect on the brain and how well developed our thoughts and ideas become. Sir Isaac Newton was a vegetarian and the ‘father of physics’, Benjamin Franklin was another one who was famous for his contribution to society because of his work in the fields of science, invention, journalism, written works as well being a statesman. Thomas Edison, Leonardo Da Vinci, Albert Einstein, Nikola Tesla was an inventor and physicist, Steve Jobs was the founder and CEO for Apple Computers, all these people are eminent scientists, inventors and high achievers, and were all vegetarians.
Take five minutes to consider these reasons for being a vegetarian. There is no reason that you have to be an omnivore other than it is your choice and preference. Please don’t give vegetarians a hard time or be so aggressive because of what you put in your body.
- It is healthy; yes being vegetarian is healthy for you. No worrying about high cholesterol or too much fat, salt or sugars.
- It is compassionate; we are not killing animals or farming living creatures for food or economic gain.
- It is environmentally friendly; having fruit trees that produce oxygen and gardens can produce more wheat, corn, rice and other staple foods that undoubtedly feed more people than a paddock full of cows.
- It economically more sustainable and viable to grow fruit and vegetables rather than having paddocks full of sheep, pigs and cows. It is cheaper to have a market garden rather than a dairy farm, sheep farm or cattle ranch.
- It diminishes the threat of a pandemic from bird flu; it avoids any danger from mad cow disease or pig disease.
As a matter of interest, the protein from tofu (soya bean) is 16% by weight, gluten (flour) is 70%, corn is 13%, rice is 8.6%, lentils & beans is 10-35%, Almonds & nuts is 14-30% and pumpkin & other seeds is 18-24%. There are vitamin supplements available if you have any doubt about it.
These are five very good reasons to think about your diet, health, wealth and well being. It is healthy, it is economic, it is ecological, it is compassionate, it is noble and it is peaceful.
I think we are on the same wave length. I am very interested in the correlation between food, mental capacity, and life longevity. I believe there is a tie. I have read about frutarianism, vegetarianism, eating raw, and even fasting. Thank you for this well written, informative, and important piece.
Best wishes.
Sincerely,
