Five Quick and Healthy Breakfast Ideas

Breakfast is the most important meal of the day, but few of us have time to prepare a healthy one. Here are five super fast and healthy breakfast ideas.

It's the most important meal of the day, but it can also be one of the most difficult to eat healthy. Most people are limited time wise and don't have the time to prepare a full breakfast in the morning. Unfortunately, stopping for an Egg McMuffin at a drive through is not a healthy solution. How can you resolve the health versus convenience dilemma? Here are some quick and healthy breakfast ideas to get your morning started right:

  1. Start the Day with Fresh Eggs

Eggs are an excellent source of protein and omega 3 fatty acids. Studies have shown that people who eat eggs in the morning tend to stay fuller longer and end up consuming fewer calories throughout the day. Need a quick and healthy way to prepare your breakfast eggs? Use your microwave to prepare delicious scrambled eggs in minutes. Turn up the flavor of your eggs by adding a dollop of salsa, grated parmesan cheese, or a variety of dried spices.
  2. Try Some Quick and Easy Whole Grain Cereal for Breakfast

Nothing is more satisfying and filling than an old fashioned bowl of oatmeal. If you don't like the taste of oatmeal, spice it up with an interesting flavor extract. Other options include adding flavored coffee syrup, fresh fruit, brown sugar, molasses, a teaspoon of peanut butter, a bit of cocoa powder, a teaspoon of flavored jelly, or a handful of nuts. To increase the health value, add a tablespoon of freshly ground flaxseed. When you become tired of oatmeal, try oat bran which is even higher in fiber than oatmeal. Oat products are a natural for a quick and healthy breakfast.
  3. Yogurt is a Refreshing, Fast Breakfast Treat

A cup of yogurt is both healthy and satisfying. You can enhance the health of your yogurt as well as the taste by adding fresh fruit, nuts, and various whole grain cereals. Look for yogurt with active cultures to help to keep your intestines colonized with healthy bacteria.
  4. Vegetarian Bacon is Surprisingly Tasty

Do you love bacon, but hate the fat and calories? Try vegetarian bacon. It's quick and easy to prepare and is low in calories and fat. Try pairing it with some microwave scrambled eggs and you have a quick and healthy breakfast that will keep you full until lunchtime.
  5. Bran Cereal is The Ultimate Quick and Easy Breakfast

What could be quicker than adding bran cereal to a bowl along with a little milk and sweetener? Plus, it's full of heart healthy fiber which most of us don't get enough of. If you have more time, add some tasty embellishments such as fruit and nuts to turn on the taste and the health benefits. Congratulate yourself on making a low calorie, high fiber choice. After all, you could have chosen doughnuts.

Now that you have some fast and healthy breakfast ideas, there's no excuse for skipping this most important meal of the day.
