It's finally arrived, the ultimate decadence in healthy eating. This might sound like a contradiction of terms. When did you ever hear of something decadent that was actually good for you?
We are talking about champagne and strawberries here. Strawberries are good for you but if you have them with alcohol scientists say that this boosts the antioxidants in them. This allows oxygen to move more freely around the body and may give added protection from cancer, heart disease and arthritis.
Strawberries are full of ellagic acid, which can help in the fight against cancers. They also contain flavanoids, which help to cut cholesterol levels and so reduce clogging of the arteries.
This sounds like a perfect way to get healthy but like everything else, it has its drawbacks. Too much alcohol can cause liver damage and other side effects. So, this isn't a good excuse to overdo the champagne.
Research into this is still going on, so in the meantime why not enjoy the benefits of all those strawberries and wash them down with a little champagne.
