Health Benefits of Blueberries

For some people, blueberries are a summertime favorite. Did you know that blueberries also offer a variety of different health benefits as well?

In fact, there are many people who consider blueberries to be the healthiest berry. Here are some of the different health benefits that you will be able to take advantage of when you add blueberries to your regular diet.

Heart Disease and Stroke

When you eat blueberries, you will be able to fight your risk of developing heart disease and stroke. The reason is because blueberries are known to reduce cholesterol levels, as well as the chance of blood clots developing. If you want to eat a berry that is heart-healthy, then blueberries are the right choice for you.

High Levels of Antioxidants

One of the main health benefits that blueberries have to offer is high levels of antioxidants. There are so many different things that blueberries can do for the body since it does contain such high levels of antioxidants. It is believed that they can protect the body from developing cancer, as well as aid in weight loss. Antioxidants are also probably the reason that blueberries help in the prevention of heart disease and stroke.

Cancer Prevention

Although this was covered in the antioxidants category, it is worth mentioning again. Blueberries, due to the high antioxidant levels that they contain, are believed to help prevent cancer. Although they may help fight against all types of cancer, some of the types which they are well believed to fight against include breast, colon and stomach. If you are at risk for developing any type of cancer, it may be a good idea to add blueberries to your regular diet.

Urinary Tract Infections

Don't have any cranberries on hand during a Urinary Tract Infection (UTI)? If so, then you may want to think about eating blueberries instead. These berries are believed to work much the same way that cranberries do by providing relief to UTI's, as well as preventing them when you eat blueberries on a regular basis. If you experience a lot of Urinary Tract Infections, then you may want to think about adding blueberries to your diet.

Prevent Poor Vision

The health benefit that blueberries are probably the most well known for is their ability to prevent poor vision. The reason is because they contain something called anthocyanin, which is known to prevent people from straining to see. It is also known to help improve night vision. The more blueberries that you eat, the better you may be able to see in the long-run. If you don't want to have to wear glasses one day, then you may want to think about adding blueberries to your diet.

These are just a few of the many different health benefits that blueberries have to offer the body. You can take advantage of these health benefits by including blueberries in your regular diet. Keep in mind that the best way to experience the health benefits that blueberries have to offer is to eat them fresh. Although other types of blueberries may also be healthy, sugar and preservatives are often added, which may take away from the health benefits that these berries offer.
