Green tea has become a popular health drink nowadays. Many believe that it has many good benefits to the human body. Have you ever wondered why green tea is considered a nutritious drink, and is more preferred than black tea ? For one reason, it is better for out teeth as black tea stains it. Dentists don't recommend drinking black tea regularly if you want to have a healthy and whiter teeth. Green tea minimizes the discoloration. Because of it's antioxidants, it also helps reduce the risk of cancer. It is a good health drink to help lower cholesterol.

Green tea is not fermented as compared to other teas. Fermentation causes some powerful antioxidants to be lost during the process. In our everyday exposure to harmful chemicals, free radicals accumulate in our body that can mutate cells and make us sick. What are free radicals ? Wisegeek describes it as organic molecules responsible for aging, tissue damage, and possibly some diseases. These molecules are very unstable, therefore they look to bond with other molecules, destroying their vigor and perpetuating the detrimental process. These free radicals can be fought by the antioxidants in our body. Wisegeek also describes antioxidants as molecules that prevent free radicals from harming healthy tissue in our body.

The bad cells infect the good ones and thus results to harmful diseases. If our body is weak, we don't have the needed nutrients to fight against these harmful agents in our body. The antioxidants stored in our body that we can get from drinking green tea, eating fruits and vegetables, eating foods rich in vitamin E, C and other useful supplements, help our body fight against these free radicals, making our body stronger.

Green tea also contains polyphenols. Examples of polyphenols are tannins which is a nutrient antioxidant; catchins which is also a powerful antioxidant; and flavenoids, as well as other vitamins and minerals, such as vitamin C.

According to new research, drinking three or more cups of loose leaf tea a day has found to be equally healthy as drinking water. In the study of the European Journal of Clinical Nutrition, it was found out that tea not only re-hydrates like water, it also protects the body also against heart diseases and certain cancers. Green tea also helps prevent cavities and tooth decay and lowers our body's blood sugar. It is also a preferred drink for those who want to lose weight as it aids in burning calories. Other benefits of green tea include the following: reduces high blood pressure, prevents arthritis, reduces the risk of heart diseases, reduces the risk of stroke and lowers the risk of blood clot.

Coffee and soda contains caffeine that is not good to our body when taken in big amounts. Some people even become addicted to these two. Some find drinking coffee a regular daily morning habit. Others substitute water with soda in every meal. Drinking these two in high amounts will not give our body good benefits. The best way is to substitute them by green tea considering it's health benefits to the human body. Good health can be achieved if we are disciplined enough to eat and drink healthy. In this way, the common diseases that we may experience later in life can be avoided.
