The food that we eat is normally determined by the food choices that we were given as children, by our parents. We learn an attitude about it too and we usually stick within these boundaries because it feels comfortable and right. Eating habits and disorders can be and are huge problem for many people. I believe this because what we put into our bodies gives us the only real control of our lives that we have. It can become an issue between children and parents if it is not treated with care. As adults we have the choice of what we eat, when to eat, where to eat and if we want to do it at all. The choice is ours. Making healthy choices becomes our responsibility. So now we need to determine what is a healthy attitude?
There are many diets and so much information about food that it is easy to be misled and misinformed but what will help is a simple food chart that explains what the three main food groups are and how much we should be consuming of each food group. This will help with problems like obesity, heart disease, cancer, high blood pressure, bowel disorders and diabetes. These diseases are a growing problem for the world especially since we have become more knowledgeable and less healthy!
This simple food chart tells us that we should eat less sugar, butter, oils, margarine, and salt. This doesn't mean don't have any, it does mean to be aware of how much of these types of food you are consuming. You may need to start looking at the food labels on prepackaged food to find out what is really in the food you are eating. I think you will be shocked to find what is in them. Eating fresh home-made food will usually be better for you and healthier. Most cereals on the supermarket shelves are very high in sugar and salt, if you had some fries for lunch, then baked potato, steak and peas for tea, you would already have had more salt than the body could possibly use, the problem has escalated without any conscious thought at all. Awareness on your part is the first step, and then moderation is normally the second step. Eating more vegetables and fruits cannot do any harm and usually has the opposite effect of being an extremely good for you. Along with some physical activity, you could live to a ripe old age. Now wouldn't that be cool banana's!
