Healthy Tea Break Snack Ideas

A shopping list of healthy food stuff and snack alternatives to stock up in your office drawer.

Its 3pm. You need a break. So you'll do your afternoon usual. Pop down for a cup of coffee, or maybe you would send a runner for those scrumptious brownies at the bakery down the street or a beef pie from the deli. At $3 a cup, and $4 for deli muffins, those mid-afternoon munchies don't come cheap. Stock up on these 5 "Office rations" and put that dollar to better use!

Eat Fruits. Choose Fresh fruit.

Put an apple and a banana in your lunch box. Not only do you get your daily dose of vitamin C but the digestive fibers in the banana will protect your colon from the Big C. Natural sugars are not only healthier, they will also give you that dose of energy to last till dinner. Furthermore, fruits one of the best sources of fiber to keep you full longer than the empty calories found in sweets.

Dry Figs, Peanuts, Walnuts, Pistachios

Top tip: get yourself a mixed bag of trail nuts. They come in 1kg family size packs. To keep them fresh and to prevent yourself from pigging out on nuts the whole day, ration the trail nuts by putting them in individual ziplock bags.

Sure they look like rectangular blocks of cardboard but these healthier alternatives to cornflakes contain wholegrain wheat or oats, with many varieties being high in the natural fibre needed for a healthy digestive system.

Chocolate's the cure. Reach for a 70% cocoa bar of chocolate. Pop a square or two along with some nuts. The chocolates cures your cravings and the nuts make you fuller faster.

Toast and Jam Anyone?

Have a slice of toast. Buy a half-loaf of bread and jam from the supermarket, store them in the pantry kitchen. Think of it as a late afternoon break-fast!

Hopefully these snack ideas will keep your energy levels and work productivity steady throughout the day.
