Honey: For Your Health, But Does Location Matter?

It's filled with vitamins, amino acids, antioxidants and minerals.

Most of us have heard that honey is great for our well being. Not only does it contain a wide array of amino acids, minerals, and vitamins it also contains very important antioxidants. When you make sure to add some to your daily cup of tea you are helping to boost your overall health.

As we are further learning, it is better to use all natural or organic honey products. You do not want any artificial additives added to your honey products. When you choose all natural honey products, you are choosing the best source of antioxidant protection you can.

In addition, recently, I was told that it is best to purchase all natural honey that was made near your home locale. Such honey products are often found at open air markets. I was told that this is the best way to purchase honey because the honey is specifically made to fight against disease that is in that particular locale.

If you purchase honey from another state it will only help fight against the toxins from that particular area. While I tried to research to check this information and was unable to find supporting facts, it still sounds like a logical, practical way to go.

I'd love to know if any of you can tell me if this theory is true or not. Either way, I don't see how it can do you harm, so sweeten up your favorite teas, and drink up to your health!

Liane, your title had me thinking in a different vein, as I have poured honey on a wound to help it heal better. The logic of buying it locally, makes sense, not to say that organically grown from somewhere else would not benefit your health - just not as much. I always use honey and lemon for sore throats. It is soothing.

Thank you for the article, and I hope you get your answer. We have local bee keepers, and if I happen to see one, I will ask him if he knows.

Hi Liane,

I'm stopping by tonight, I currently have a very bad cough and we were debating the honey and local bee thing. I sure think this is an interesting article, I'll be darned as I cannot figure it out? I've done a little checking and still no answers to
a very interesting comment you made about using local honey. I'll check more later and see what I come up with. What an interesting concept! Until I hear differently I am using what I have in my tea along w/a little lemon =) No other choices, but I'm
for sure going to check when feeling better. Great article!

Stay well
Rab aka Bobbie =)

Great article, a lot of information to think about. I'm waiting to see if anyone has an answer to a most interesting question you pose here. Thanks

It sounds logical to me. Your local bees gather the necter and pollen from your area, and you have the allergies and so on caused by the elements in your area so that must be the answer.Great article.

RAB, add a little brandy to your honey and lemon, the greatest remedy for a sore throat.

Thank you Sara for your link, I have a better idea now as to the importance of the locality of the bees. I so appreciated learning
more. Good information.

Thanks Ruby for your comment on a great rememedy for this son of mine's current illness. I recall the recipe well, I just don't want him using the first ingredient :) Do mother's ever change?
Thank you
