Possible Long Term Effects From Processed Foods

With all the hustle and bustle of juggling our jobs, along with making sure the children and the rest of the family is fed, the easiest way of course is to keep the freezer filled with diverse frozen dinners. With homework, transportation to and from school activities and maybe diverse sports, there is not much time to prepare a normal home cooked dinner.

Frozen Dinners Are Quick, But Will They Fill Your Needs?

Just like a quick donut for breakfast before work or school, it will give you a quick burst of energy, but quickly loose its original kick. The vegetarian, at one time had the right idea in order to get their daily requirements of vitamins and minerals by having a good mix of fruits, such as strawberries, blueberries, or cut-up fresh peaches for their breakfast, but today, we are informed by nutritionists that most all fruits directly from chemically fertilized harvesting are being irradiated to prevent sickness from any possible bacteria that may have grown to dangerous levels during handling. In the process of irradiation, most of the nutritional contents are lost we are told by as much as 80 % of certain vitamins. This changes most fruits and vegetables vitamin/mineral content to those found after the canning process. Of course, the canning industry has its own process guideline. They add an exorbitant amount of salt in order to maintain the canned vegetables as safe as possible to eat for longer periods of time. There are also a few other preservatives which are usually added that also help maintain original taste of certain canned vegetables.

So, How Do We Get Around All This Food Processing ?

Well, what I remember in my past years growing vegetables in my back yard using all recycled organic material year after year was that there were no chemical fertilizers used in our garden...ever. Today many USDA approved organic farms exist throughout the U.S. and we are told that they are growing and expanding at a rate like never before. One of the major reasons for their recent unprecedented growth is that at least for the near future and probably always, the organic farming harvest will not be subject to food irradiation as is becoming a fairly standard procedure in the chemically fertilized farming sector. Chemical based farming also falls short of producing fully nutritional vegetables and fruit because the soil used is highly depleted of minimal nutrient content through the years of feeding their crops with chemicals instead of replenishing the soils with "organic" materials need to produce truly healthy plants. Irradiation also does not fully eradicate disease causing bacteria and whatever is successfully killed by the radiation, the small remainder soon reproduces under proper conditions, so irradiation is only a temporary panacea.

Most of the population who normally eat vegetables and fruit that have been both harvested from chemically fertilized farm land and later irradiated for shipment to the supermarket will find themselves taking vitamin/mineral supplements to make sure they get their required nutritional needs, but those of us who regularly ingest organically grown USDA certified food will usually find that they have no need of supplements to maintain proper nutrition. Expert nutritionists also tell us that people who regularly eat organically grown foods are generally in better health and suffer less of the diseases that are found in those that eat chemically fertilized foods on a daily basis. Organic fruits and vegetables can be eaten raw to gain in the live enzymes, aiding in your digestion, which are destroyed in the irradiation process. Organic food is still higher priced, but they are coming down as more and more farms are converting to organic.

Yes, its like having food when you are not really having food. I think it also has much to do with our 'obese' problems too. I am enjoying your well written articles!
