Quench Your Thirst and Boost Your Health

Here are ten drinks that will improve your memory, relieve your headache, improve your sex life, boost your energy, help you lose weight, and more. They are all good for your health and well being, so drink and stay healthy.

Experts have long suggested drinking eight glasses of water a day but many of us fall far short. Some people just don't like the taste of water, and that's OK. There are many drinks out there that will fill the bill, and give us a health boost. So the next time you are thirsty pour yourself a drink of good health.

  1. To Increase your Energy:

Drink a tall glass of lemonade if you need extra pep. The taste of lemon can fight fatigue by stimulating nerves in the nose, which sets off wake up sensors in the brain.
  2. To Wake up Quickly in the Morning:

Pour yourself a cup of coffee. The caffeine will energize your nervous system, so you will feel more clear headed and alert. Just avoid heavy cream and sugar which will hurt your waistline.
  3. Have PMS:

Drink a milkshake; it can prevent and ease cramps. Research at University of Massachusetts Amherst showed a diet rich in calcium and vitamin D helps reduce PMS by 40%. Blend one cup milk with one cup frozen strawberries. For just 160 calories you'll get 25% of your RDA of calcium and vitamin D.
  4. Get Rid of a Headache:

Drink a glass of apple juice or cider (hot or cold). It is more effective at reducing the severity and length of a headache than aspirin, says Dr. Hirsh. While his research looked at green apples, any type of apple juice will work; if you are fond of apples it can have an extremely therapeutic effect. Ninety percent of what we call taste is actually smell.
  5. Have an Upset Stomach:

Drink a cup of ginger tea. Ginger settles a sour stomach and eases nausea. Add a dash of ginger in regular tea, or grate some fresh ginger into boiling water, and let it steep five minutes or so before drinking it. Chamomile and peppermint tea are also known to relieve an upset stomach, but avoid mint if you have heartburn.
  6. Reviving your Sex Life:

Mix a banana with a glass of fat free milk, and a cup of yogurt. The smell of bananas seems to act as an aphrodisiac for women. In one study the aroma was shown to increase the blood flow to the genitals, making the nerves more sensitive to touch.
  7. Want to Drop a Few Pounds:

Drink grapefruit juice. A 12 week study of 108 obese patients at Scripps Clinic in San Diego found that people who drank 8 ounces of grapefruit juice before their meals lost an average of 3.3 pounds. Some people drank apple juice, and they didn't lose any weight.
  8. Fatigue after Exercise:

Drink low fat chocolate milk .Flavored milk contains the right ratio of carbs and protein. Milk also contains bone building calcium at levels sports drinks don't match. Why chocolate milk? If you make it with real cocoa, it's full of antioxidants, which further aids in muscle repair.
  9. Have you Been Forgetful?

Drink green tea. Its brain boosting properties may keep your mind razor sharp suggests a recent study in American Journal of Clinical Nutrition. Researchers determined that seniors who drank at least two cups of green tea daily were least likely to show sign of cognitive impairment compared with those who drank tea three times a week.
  10. Need to Relax?

Drink a cup of hot milk. Milk will help you destress at the end of a long, hard day. Warming the milk activates tryptophans that cue the brain to go to sleep according to The American Journal of Clinical Nutrition.

Anne, It makes me jumpy too, but I drink it anyway. I do have to limit it since I'm on a low potassium diet.

Thanks to you too, Lucy, you are always helpful.
