Red, Yellow and Orange is Good for Our Eyes

Eating lots of red, yellow and orange colored fruits and vegetables help to improve our vision. So, to avoid your eyes from getting cataract and aging, red, yellow and orange colors should be your daily top priority diet.

For those who suffer from eye diseases and healthy persons as well, adjusting daily diet is very important not only for maintaining good vision but also for the sake of good health. Thus, consuming food with vitamins, green leafy vegetables, fruits, and less additive and chemical substances added foodstuffs can assist to prevent vision loss in later years.

All fruits and vegetables with red, yellow or orange colors are good sources of beta-carotene and vitamin A. They are red carrot, tomato, apricot, red sweet potato, orange, lemon, grapefruit and other citrus fruits. Besides beta-carotene and vitamin A, these foods also contain vitamin C which is good to maintain healthy vision.

As our body does not keep vitamin C for longer periods, thus replenishing it by eating lots of vitamin C-rich fruits and vegetables is essential. Additionally, vitamin C protects the lens from oxidative damage and protects enzymes within the lens by removing oxidation-damaged proteins. Lack of vitamin C may lead to the formation of cataracts.

As for elderly people who are at high risk of getting cataracts, citrus fruits are good for them. The cataract is a chronic eye disease which can lead to total blindness if left untreated or ignored. To avoid easily contracting with cataract, people over 60 years old should eat more vitamin A and C rich vegetables and fruits.
