Recent research has shown that a particular enzyme that helps cells to ward off aging, is present in peanuts and red wine.
Red wine seems to be beneficial in this respect because the skins of the red wine grape contain a substance called reversatrol which has been found to extent the life of cells. This research has only been carried out on single cell yeasts and is not complete yet.
Red wines from Chile and Argentina contain more naturally occurring reversatrol than those from France. The reason for this seems to be because these grapes are grown in stressful environments caused by dryer climate and the theory is that this natural stress increases the reversatrol levels.
Peanuts also contain reversatrol . So a combination of red wine and peanuts is a healthy addition to the diet (provided that you don't have nut allergies, of course).
