Not many people like pears, because some fleshes are a bit mushy and watery. However, if you choose rock-hard ones when buying them, you are sure will enjoy pears more.

I am a pear grower in Yakima, Washington. D\'Anjou\'s are actually a sweet flavored pear and not tart. The first picture shows Bartletts (yellow ones are fully ripened soft and juicy and green ones which are hard and crisp), Forelles and a Concorde pear. You did not mention the Concorde pear which is a newer variety buy more common than the Seckel or Forelle. The Concorde is a white fleshed sweeting eating and is cross of Conference and Comice pears. Pears can be eaten either hard and crispy or juicy and soft. Few pears will ripen to yellow color like the Bartlett will. Others ripen by yeilding to gentle pressure to determine ripeness. I let my Bosc, D\'Anjou and Concorde hang on the tree longer than most growers and they achive greater sugar content that way. Since I am a small grower, I am able to quickly market them as leaving them to ripen to their fullest shortens their lifespan.
