Funny how times change and you don’t even notice. My mum always used to drink tea and she’d simply say, ”Cuppa” in that tone and either my sister or I would jump up and pop a teabag in the cup and boil the jug. Before that we had a teapot with tea leaves. These days there seem to be more ‘tea houses’ around and there are many choices if you would rather go out for a coffee.
Did you know that 2004 a total of 3,200,000 of tea was produced? That’s a lot of tea!
We are spoiled for the choices of tea that we can get but there are only four types of true tea and these are: Black Tea, Oolong Tea, Green Tea and White Tea.
Tea naturally contains substances like caffeine and antoxidants although it has no nutritional value as it does not have any proteins, carbohydrates or fats. It has been used medicinally for years and current studies are showing that tea does have some value and could be of benefit to some conditions. These studies are related to: Diabetes, Liver Disease, Weight Loss, Cognitive Impairment to name just a few. Herbal tea’s do not usually contain any tea leaves but are instead a mixture of herbal infusions like Chamomile or Rosehips thus making them caffeine free.
In this modern era, we are becoming more aware of what we feeding and putting into our bodies and how our bodies are reacting to this input. The natural therapists and scientists can work that out while I kick back and enjoy my cup of tea.
