Vegetarianism: A Neutral Perspective

Sure, you've heard that veggies are good for you. You've heard people say you need to eat meat. I've included six common myths to test against the facts.

You're hurting a living creature- Yes, animals are killed when we eat meat, but when we eats plants, we're also eating a "living creature". If you believe in evolution, you probably understand that plants evolved from the same thing as us. Oh, and don't forget that every time you breath, you're killing bacteria.

You need more protein- Yes, everyone needs protein. Vegetarians get protein from many foods, such as beans, oats, rice, nuts, and cereal. Plus, red meat can cause colon cancer (and is fatty). Vegetarians get plenty of nutrition, without the bad parts.

I'm smart, because I eat vegetables!- It's a scientifically proven fact that, on average, vegetarians have lower levels of intelligence than that of meat-eaters. I've never heard that meat makes you smart, so don't think because you eat meat you can be intelligent.* Just remember, correlation doesn't equal causation.

(Note on that part at the bottom)

People don't like vegetarians- People are simply skeptical about whether it is a good choice. I tested being a vegetarian, and it seemed that almost everyone wanted to know why, but they still will be your friends.

Vegetables don't carry as many diseases as meat- Possibly true, but don't forget that e-coli comes from them. Washing vegetables before eating them is like cooking meat before you eat it. Also, many farmers use chemicals to help the plants grow. That can't be good for you.

It's hard to be a vegetarian.- After a few weeks, you'll start to enjoy the taste of vegetables; probably as much as you like meat.

Fish and eggs are good for your brain. I can't deny that.
