Psyllium has a rough and short stem, and long and oval-shaped leaf. Its fruit is rich in substances like Aucubine, enzyme, fat and Mucilage. This Psyllium is very obvious in high fiber diet in Europe countries. It is always regarded as the best high fiber additive in almost most of the healthier diet around the world.
According to the medical experiment, Psyllium can lower down the low-density lipoprotein (LDL), the "bad" cholesterol, but it never lowers down high-density lipoprotein (HDL), the “good” cholesterol. In 1998, FDA announced that the intake of Psyllium can effectively decrease the occurrence of coronary heart related diseases.
The report of American nutrition (American Journal of Clinical Nutrition 1999: 61:1014-1019) explained that Psyllium can decrease the cholesterol level besides preventing the frequent outbreak of heart attack disease. It is convinced that by eating more high fiber rich foodstuffs, not only the level of LDL is decreased but also helps stimulating our body's metabolism.
In one of the experiment by American University, they found that groups who consumed 10.2g Psyllium everyday has their cholesterol decreased to 4% , and low-density protein is also drops to 7%. Groups without consuming Psyllium still remain the high level of cholesterol and low-density protein in their blood.
Another experiment by Dr. Andrew Smith, from UK, also found that respondent who consumed 40mg Psyllium during breakfast has a good feeling with their tiredness fell to 10%. In addition to that, the high diet breakfast also cut down the depression index. People who consume Psyllium are more energetic, vigorous and they always have good feeling. This experiment concludes that high fiber diet can indirectly affect human's mood and feeling.
