We had to put my Mother in a nursing home this year. Her doctor and my father decided this
would be in her best interest. She suffers from Dementia. This disease is becoming a
more well known ailment.
She was admitted to the nursing home on August 27, 2008, her 63rd birthday.
We are able to visit her each and every day. She is living not far from where we live.
Somedays are better than others for her. It is sad when she asks us when she can
come back home, we are not able to tell her she will probably not ever come home.
This facility allows my children to visit her as well. I also talk to some of the
other people who live there. One woman was jealous of my mother because she
has visitors everyday and this other woman says no one ever visits her, she thinks they
are embarrassed by her. I found this so sad.
This particular nursing home uses animal therapy. They have birds, cats and dogs there.
These animals seem to calm the people down.
It is sad she will not be able to have the holidays with her extended family this year. Eventually, she will be able to come visit us but not yet she has to be there a while first.
It is sad to have to visit Mom at the nursing home, although I know she is in good hands and she has round the clock care. I know she is in the best place for her.
