In today's ever changing world women are on the go more than ever. Most of the time when they are on the move they are alone. As one of these women, I offer a few tips on safety Shopping seems to be when we are most at risk. Whether it is day to day errands or mad holiday shopping, I see common mistakes made.
The most common thing we do is leave our purse in the buggy. Thinking that our purse will be safe and nothing will happen while we walk half way down an aisle or just turn our back for a few minutes. I have seen more thefts occur with this. Stop and think about what all is in your purse. If you are like me it is almost your entire life. Your cash, credit cards, checks, drivers license social security card, your children's information. Within a split second a stranger can remove your purse and disappear with all of your information. Yes, the majority of stores have cameras that might actually catch the individual in the act, but by the time the police are involved, the store manager is located and the video can be reviewed the suspect has made off with all of your information.
This also includes where you live and probably your car keys. Ladies, no matter how short the time might be do not leave your purse unattended or out of your sight. This also includes while you are loading packages into your car.
Another thing I see is the mad hunt for the car keys. We will stand outside our car digging to the bottom of our purse looking for the keys. This gives an open opportunity for anything to happen. You are distracted and unaware of your surroundings. Stop before you leave the store and find your car keys. Keep them in your hand while you walk to your car. Remember the alarm on your remote entry can be used in a time of panic if something occurs. Also your keys alone can be used as a weapon if you were to be attacked in the parking lot.
Before parking look at your surroundings and know where you have parked. If you know that you will not be out of the store before dark, park in a well lit area. Always be aware of your surroundings and who is around.
It is up to you to do everything you can to protect yourself.
