The Effects Of Drugs

This is a report I did for Red Ribbon Week. Contains info about drugs and ways they can effect you negatively.

As many of us already know or are starting to learn, drugs and alcohol are one of the worst things you can supply to your body. There are many types of drugs both legal and illegal that people use. The six of these drugs are alcohol, psychoactive drugs, depressants, stimulants, Hallucinogens, and Inhalants.

First one up is alcohol. Although this type of drug is legal and probably the most commonly used depressant, it still has a huge affect to the body if taken in large amounts. You may sometimes get confused about your surroundings, alertness may decrease, you may start seeing stuff a bit blurry or shaky, you may get tired and drowsy and sometimes even have blackouts and have periods of time being uncautious and even worse death can occur. A major problem with alcohol is drunk driving which is increasing year after year killing hundreds and injuring thousands. In fact, most car accidents include drunk driving or a suspected drunk driver.

The next drug were up against now are psychoactive drugs. These are mostly illegal. According to it's name yes it does make you psycho and kind of coco making you seem and act different, make you sweat a lot and can sometimes result in mirages and illusions. There are so many side affects to these drugs it will take a whole tv show to show a commercial giving you all the side affects of this. Some of them can cause you to take an overdose when you don't know it, birth defects, hepatitis and aids and can sometimes cause you to commit suicide.

Third drug is depressants. Just because your having a bad day or need to relax is not an excuse to use this drug. Some of it is legal and some illegal. Tranquilizers, and narcotics are in the family of depressants and can lower blood pressure, slow down your heart rate, and relax you. But this is also like alcohol giving you about the same affects just like it. Taking too much of it is not the smartest thing to do either.

The forth drug we will now take about is stimulants. This is quite the opposite of what depressants and alcohol affect you. This makes you hyper, crazy, exited, something like the squirrel in ‘Over the Hedge'. These increase heart rate, blood pressure, breathing, and your alertness and energy. All of these are highly illegal and can cause death and a HUGE fine. Cocaine, crack, and amphetamines are all examples of this drug and they effect your body almost instantly.

The fifth of these killers a hallucinogens. This is something kind of like psychoactive drugs but are just as illegal. These things change how you think, and how you perspire (sweat ). Marijuana is at the top of the list of all these hallucinogens, including PCP, LSD, mescaline, a and psilocybin. Like all other drugs they are killing people every day.

The last one a sixth one is inhalants. These are unknown killers in the air and are also common, from your central air filter, oils, gas, even the white board marker your teacher at school uses! These go right into your veins right from the lungs causing a huge amount of damage to the lungs, the bones, kidneys, liver and the brain. These can slow you down causing something like a hidden alcohol. Many kids in school do this deceasing their grades and possible their future.

The drugs listed above legal and illegal are bad for your body. But sometimes there are good drugs like medicine that help you. But a rule with all drugs, if taken in high amounts it can be fatal. Just be cool and be drug free so your body or mind don't get affected in any negative or harmful way.

to categorize marijuana as "deadly" or even in the same category as LSD (Which by the way kids, your government came up with) is quite a mistake. Did you know coffee is physically addictive, while marijuana isn't? Why do we have starbucks in every corner i wonder...
