Now listen, the reproductive organs become ready for the possibility of pregnancy even in the early teens. But until such time as it is needed to help start a new life, the sex cell which is produced each month simply perishes.

Also until a pregnancy actually occurs, the changes which occur each month in the lining of the uterus serve no useful purpose. But the uterus goes through its cycle preparation regularly every month. When no pregnancy occur, the velvety lining of the uterus breaks up into small pieces and is eliminated over a period of about four days through the vagina.

These fragments of lining tissue carry with them a considerable amount of blood. It is this periodic loss of tissue and blood that we call menstruation.

Menstruation is a normal process; every girl in her threshold period should be told that menstruation will begin once her reproductive organs become active. By be informed in advance she will not be alarmed when on the first occasion of menstruation; she notices the escape of blood and soft tissue from her vagina. In order to prevent the lost of too much blood at the time of menstruation, the uterus itself becomes quite firm-so firm as to cause a certain amount of pain, commonly called cramps.

A girl who is approaching the time when her reproductive organ will become active should be instructed on the wearing of some types of sanitary napkin during menstruation. She should be coached on how to keep tidy so as to avoid the embarrassment of being offensive.

A girl does not feel as full of energy as usual during the three or four days of menstruation. She may even feel tense and irritable for a few days previously.

She should understand, however, that this is the usual course of events in a woman's life. Her optimism and vigor will return as soon as the period of menstruation is over.

A girl should avoid strenuous physical activities, such as swimming and horse back riding, during menstruation. Otherwise it is well for her to keep on with her usual activities. She should not consider herself “sick” during menstruation nor should she excuse herself from her usual routines just because she feels uncomfortable at this time.

Menstruation is part of your life as girls or women yet to get into menopause. Applying good hygiene will help keep offensive odor away!
