The same old diet tips are always churned around. Here are some new ones that can make all the difference.
Take cues from your body - If you're fatigued, you need rest. If you're hungry, you need food. As they say, “all things in moderation” and aim to make healthy choices instead of depriving your body altogether.
Be realistic - A supermodel figure may be some women's idea of perfection but your body will only be what it can be. We all have to work with what we have and embrace who we are. Setting unrealistic body image goals will only set you up for disappointment.
Do it slowly - Losing one kilogram per week is a healthy rate of weight loss. Any more and you may be shedding water and muscle mass while your fatty deposits are staying put.
Bulk up on healthy foods - A super appetite calls for super foods. Feed your body with an abundance of fresh fruits, vegetables and grains. They're all excellent for bulk and yes, even carbohydrates have their place in a healthy diet.
Deprivation creates disappointment - The very nature of deprivation is that when you do it to yourself, it makes you crave the food even more. Depriving yourself is a sure-fire way to binge on your desired food if you do dare to have a taste.
Be kind to yourself - Understand that inside that body that became overweight is the same person who deserves kindness, love and happiness
Identify non-essential additions - Skip the butter on bread and the sugar on your cereal. Try substituting with healthy alternatives like avocado on a sandwich and fresh fruit in your bowl.
Move your body - Stop making everything so easy in your life. Put the remote control on top of the TV and get up to use it. Walk to the shop, climb the stairs, do a little more housework, park further away and send the lawnmower man on holidays. Get the picture?
Ignore mind games - TV commercials with before and after images, can't-say-no sales pitches, easy-way-out options and quick fixes are not what you need. There is only one way to weight loss and that is a combination of more exercise and fewer calories.
Keep it to yourself - Unless you have a 100% supportive network of friends and family who will not try to undermine your weight loss efforts, avoid talking about it. Sometimes people simply don't know when they're projecting their own inadequacies - or superiority - onto others.
I found this whole article to be great.
