Damn you, taco salad!!!!
I started yet another new job recently, and have thus far been pleased with the cafeteria here. The salad bar has fresh grilled chicken and fresh cut veggies everyday, so if I don't feel like a salad for lunch, I can just grab a bunch of chicken and a few scoops of peas. Today, however, the lunch special was taco salad- I love taco salad. You can manage to make the contents relatively healthy AND tasty, but the best part is the greasy, fried tortilla shell. Fried starch is the antithesis of healthy.
So why not indulge just once? I'm back on the weight loss kick, that's why. I've skipped the New Year's Resolution (NYR) path, however. NYRs almost always fail. The further you get from Jan 1st, the less you think about the goals you set. Instead, I'm looking at this as a new beginning for reasons that will stay with me longer.
My old job was stressful and depressing, so I put on weight. I changed jobs (in an infinitely better place now) just before the holidays, which is a time most everyone adds a few pounds. So the holidays are over and I'm in a job I love, with access to healthy food every day. Circumstances have aligned to help me get back on track.
Try looking for more permanent reminders of your goals in your own life and avoid the NYRs. Something you see or do every day that reminds you of what you're working towards will do more for your weight than a resolution that fades as winter turns to spring.
Oh, and I managed to resist the taco salad, but it wasn't easy.
