Five Great Dieting Tips

These five tips have helped me lose over thirty pounds.

Drink a glass of water twenty minutes before a meal

This may be the easiest thing to do of all. It works for a couple of reasons. The human body takes about twenty minutes after eating something to recognize that it has eaten something. This has to do with the digestive process, but if you drink a glass of water ahead of time, you will have started the clock ticking on your body recognizing it is full. Secondly, if you drink a full glass of water your stomach will have less room to put food. It's that simple.

Get a full night's sleep

The body processes food better and does a better job of complete digestion when a person gets a full nights rest. The average adult needs between seven and ten hours of sleep a night. If you don't get enough sleep stress can keep you from losing weight.

Drink an unsweetened caffeinated beverage

Caffeine is an appetite suppressant, but you don't need to go out and buy expensive pills, just have two or three cups of coffee or tea a day. I would strongly recommend that you not drink regular cola as it is very high in sugar and the verdict is still out on aspartame in diet sodas.

Realize the power of celery

Celery is what is known as a calorie neutral or even calorie negative food. In other words, in some people, consuming celery actually burns more calories in the digestion than you receive from the celery. Celery is very high in water content and fiber, but otherwise is about as innocent a food as you can find. It will fill you up and keep you from getting hungry.

Get the benefits of fiber

Fiber aids in the digestive process and helps to clean out the system. Too much fiber can be detrimental (especially if you had that extra cup of coffee), but a good amount will help the entire system run at full efficiency.
