General Motors Weight Loss Diet

The General Motors Diet targets a weight loss of 7-10 lbs in seven days. It also helps in flushing and cleaning out toxins.

The General Motors Weight Loss Diet was developed for the employees of the firm. However, the diet proved so useful that the world cannot stop listing its benefits. Along with being a perfect recipe for a fast weight loss, it also helps detoxify and cleanse the system.

According to the diet, you must completely abstain from drinking alcohol. You should ideally take 10-15 glasses of water everyday as it helps flush out the toxins from your body. You can consume the following beverages - water flavored with lemon, club soda, black coffee - no cream, no substitutes and no sugar.

Important: No fruit juices before Day Seven.

Day One

Eat as many fruits as you want. No bananas though. If watermelon or cantaloupe is available, take huge quantities of it. Watermelon will enable you to lose 3-4 lbs on the first day. Day One would prepare the system for the week to come.

Day Two

Eat all vegetables - raw or cooked - of your choice in any quantity. A cooked vegetable does not mean vegetables made in curry or with spices. You can make food palatable by adding a dollop of butter or some salad dressing to it. This is taken for energy and balance. You can start the day by eating a baked potato but the rest of the vegetables consumed during the day should be calorie free and rich in nutrition and fiber.

You can also try sautéed vegetables. Boil the vegetables of your choice, once they are boiled drain the water out of them, lightly sauté them in a teaspoon of butter, add a little salt and you are done.

Day Three

A mixture of fruits and vegetables - all the salad that you can eat day! No bananas and no potatoes. Day Three prepares the system to start burning excess pounds.

Day Four

Eat up to 8 bananas and drink 3 glasses of milk. Day Four makes up for the lost potassium and sodium.

Day Five

Take small portions of lean meat or cottage cheese with 6 whole tomatoes. You can make a sandwich out of it. Increase your water intake by 1/4th. The meat / cheese are for iron and proteins and the tomatoes are for digestion and fiber. The excess water purifies the system.

Day Six

Eat unlimited amounts of lean meat (fish / chicken) or cottage cheese and vegetables.

Day Seven

Eat brown rice, fruit juices and all the vegetables you can possibly stuff! On this day, you will feel 7-10 lbs lighter from all the rinsing and flushing. Do not use white rice - use pulses for a protein substitute.

If this diet works for you, please follow it only once a month and not more than that. Eat enough when on this diet to avoid fatigue, tiredness and emotional distress. Do not curb your hunger!

Hi,

This is not the correct and original diet plan.

You have added wrong stuff like:

A) a sandwich on day 5. That is absolutely forbidden!
B)Lean Meat (fish or chicken) - both these do not contain enough proteins recomended in the programme.

Thanks
Shamita

My husband and i are following this and are on day 4 with bananas. Who ever wrote it is doable...??? It isn't!!! Really difficult to live on that yuck soup...on day 2, in the evening both of us were feeling feverish and as if will faint. Apologies but i guess to work out every day with normal eating habits will help me more than this.

#16 by Reshma, Jun 30, 2008
I'm in the fourth day of the GM Diet...i think tomorrow is the toughest part, having to live with only tomatoes and water and some chicken as a teaser. The trick for starters is:

Store up enough groceries for variety.

Preferably, start your diet on a Friday so that you have the 2nd and 3rd day as a weekend so that you can grab anything you're allowed you eat easily and take rest whenever possible. Don't forget the 'water' clause- PLENTY OF IT.

Don't wait till you are hungry, for, that will make you really tired. So, eat everytime you feel a little lighter maybe about 2 hours after you eat(it may be even less for some). DIETING DOESN'T MEAN STARVING HERE. Eat as much as you can...no restrictions on that, especially when you work outside of home.

Have a partner/friend to movitate you all the while-it helps. Don't just give up- it is easy to give reasons.

Go walking or swimming/ atleast do some stretching to make yourself feel good, but do it towards evening so that it doesn't drain out your energy in the day- you could anyways sleep later in the night.

Sprinkle very little salt/spices(like garlic) if you cannot eat it just like that...but compensate that with some more extra water. You don't have to make it feel like its a punishment. You could make the same dish that you prepare at home(with minimal spices and no oil)-that will make it tastier atleast...surprisingly, you'll notice that your cravings will start coming down by day 3.

Will write more later based on my experiences hereafter :) Herez to Good Health!
#17 by Reshma, Jun 30, 2008
I think when the diet says sandwich on 5th day, it means a sandwich with chicken thinly sliced and tomatoes to make it taste better(no bread there)- this was original devised in the US folks.

Also, I don\'t know how far the rice would help...the GM diet specifies that the meat on 5th day gives proteins and iron. So, the chicken substitute should be some pulse(in less quantity)+ spinach or something like that and not rice- but in what quantity? That needs to be specified for vegetarians.

General Motors: Weight Loss Diet Program

The following diet and health program was developed for employees and dependents of General Motors, Inc. and is intended for their exclusive use. This program was developed in conjunction with a grant from U.S. Department of Agriculture and the Food and Drug Administration. It was field tested at the Johns Hopkins Research Centre and was approved for distribution by the Board of Directors, General Motors Corp. at a general meeting on August 15, 1985. General Motors Corp. wholly endorses this program and is making it available to all employees and families. This program will be available at all General Motors Food Service Facilities. It is management's intention to facilitate a wellness and fitness program for everyone.

This program is designed for a target weight loss of 10-17 lbs per week. It will also improve your attitudes and emotions because of its cleansing systematic effects.

The effectiveness of this seven day plan is that the food eaten burn more calories than they give to the body in caloric value.

This plan can be used as often as you like without any fear of complications. It is designed to flush your system of impurities and give you a feeling of well being. After seven days you will begin to feel lighter because you will be lighter by at least 10 lbs. You will have an abundance of energy and an improved disposition.

During the first seven days you must abstain from all alcohol
You must drink 10 glasses of water each day Day One All fruits except bananas. Your first day will consist of all the fruits you want. It is strongly suggested that you consume lots of melons the first day. Especially watermelon and a loupe. If you limit your fruit consumption to melons, your chances of losing three lbs. on first day are very good.

Day Two All vegetables. You are encouraged to eat until you are stuffed with all the raw or cooked vegetables of your choice. There is no limit on the amount or type. For your complex carbohydrate, you will start day two with a large baked potato for breakfast. You may top the potato with one pat of butter.

Day Three A mixture of fruits and vegetables of your choice. Any amount, any quantity. No bananas yet. No potatoes today.

Day Four Bananas and milk. Today you will eat as many as eight bananas and drink three glasses of milk. This will be combined with the special soup which may be eaten in limited quantities.

Day Five Today is feast day. You will eat beef and tomatoes. Eat two 10 oz. portions of lean beef. Hamburger is OK. Combine this with six whole tomatoes. On day five you must increase your water intake by one quart. This is to cleanse your system of the uric acid you will be producing.

Day Six Beef and vegetables. Today you may eat an unlimited amount of beef and vegetables. Eat to your hearts content.

Day Seven Today your food intake will consist of brown rice, fruit juices and all the vegetables you care to consume.

Tomorrow morning you will be 10-17 lbs. lighter than one week ago. If you desire further weight loss, repeat the program again. You may repeat this program as often as you like, however, it is suggested that you are allowed two glasses of white wine in addition to the instructions on the program. You may substitute champagne for white wine. Under no circumstances are you to drink any other alcoholic beverages with the exception of beer which is allowed. Any liquor (bourbon, vodka, rum) is forbidden. Cream drinks are especially forbidden. You may have an occasional cordial such as creme de menthe or schnapps, but you must always limit yourself to two drinks. If you wine, drink only wine that day. If you have beer, drink only beer that day, etc. Alcohol adds empty calories to your diet. However, after the first week it will help your digestion and settle your stomach.

G.M.'S Wonder Soup

The following soup is intended as a supplement to your diet. It can be eaten any time of the day in virtually unlimited quantities. You are encouraged to consume large quantities of this soup.

28 oz, Water, 6 Large Onions, 2 Green Peppers, Whole Tomatoes (fresh or canned), 1 Head Cabbage, 1 Bunch Celery, 4 Envelopes Lipton Onion Soup Mix, Herbs and Flavouring as desired.

Additional Comments

Vegetables as may be taken in the form of a salad if desired. No dressing except malt, white or wine vinegar, squeezed lemon, garlic, herbs. No more than one tea spoon of oil.

You have been given a recipe for the WONDER SOUP which can be eaten in unlimited quantities. This soup is a supplement while you are on the program and it should be a pleasure to eat. Not everyone likes cabbage, green peppers, calory etc. This recipe is not inflexible. You may substitute vegetables according to your taste. You may add any vegetables you like: asparagus, peas, corn, turnips, green beans, cauliflower, etc. Try to stay away from beans (lima, pinto, kidney, etc.), however, because they tend to be high in calories even though they are very good for you.

Beverages you may consume while on the program :

Water (flavoured with lemon/lime if desired).
Club Soda is OK.
Black Coffee. No cream or cream substitute. No sugar or sweetness.
Black Tea = Herb or Leaf.
Absolutely nothing else except the fruit juices which are part of day seven. No fruit juices before day seven.
How and Why It Works

Day One you are preparing your system for the upcoming programme. Your only source of nutrition is fresh or canned fruits. Fruits are nature's perfect food. They provide everything you could possibly want to sustain life except total balance and variety.

Day Two starts with a fix of complex carbo-hydrates coupled with an oil dose. This is taken in the morning for energy and balance. The rest of day two consists of vegetables which are virtually calorie free and provide essential nutrients and fibre.

Day Three eliminates the potato because you get your carbohydrates from the fruits. You system is now prepared to start burning excess pounds. You will still have cravings which should start to diminish by day four.

Day Four, bananas, milk and soup sound the strangest and least desirable. You're in for a surprise. You probably will not eat all the bananas allowed. But they are there for the potassium you have lost and the sodium you may have missed the past three days. You will notice a definite loss of desire for sweets. You will be surprised how easy this day will go.

Day Five, Beef and tomatoes. The beef is for iron and proteins, the tomatoes are for digestion and fibre. Lots and lots of water purifies your system. You should notice colourless urine today. Your allowance calls for the equivalent of five "quarter ponders". Do not feel you have to eat all this beef. You must eat the six tomatoes.

Day Six is similar to day five, Iron and proteins from beef, Vitamins and fibre from vegetables. By now your system is in a total weight loss inclination. There should be a noticeable difference in the way you look today, compared to day one.

Day Seven finished off the program like a good cigar used to finish off Victorian meals, except much healthier. You have your system under control and it should thank you for the flushing and cleaning you just gave it.

GM Diet Plan for Vagiterians

The following diet and health programme was developed for the employees and the dependants of General Motors.

This programme is designed for a target weight loss of 5-6 kgs., per week. It will also improve your attitude and emotions because of its systematic cleansing effects. The effectiveness of the seven day plan is that the food eaten burn more calories than they give to the body in caloric value. This plan can be used as often as you like without any fear of complications. It is designed to flush your system of impurities and give you a feeling of well being. After seven days you will begin to feel lighter by atleast 10 lbs. You will have an abundance of energy and an improved disposition.

During the first seven days you must drink 10 glasses of water each day.

DAY ONE
All fruits except bananas. Your first day will consist of all fruits you want. It is suggested you consume lots of melons the first day, especially water melon.

DAY TWO
All vegetables. You are encouraged to eat until you are stuffed with all raw/cooked vegetables of your choice. There is no limit on the amount or type. Avoid oil and coconut while cooking vegetables. Have large boiled potato for breakfast.

DAY THREE
Any mixture of fruits and vegetables of your choice. Any amount any quantity. No bananas yet and no potatoes today.

DAY FOUR
Banana and milk. Today you will eat as many as eight bananas and drink three glasses of milk. You can also have 1 bowl of vegetable soup.

DAY FIVE
Today is a feast day. You will eat one cup of rice. You also have to eat six whole tomatoes and drink 12 glasses of water today to cleanse your system of the excess uric acid you will be producing.

DAY SIX
Today is another all vegetables day. You must eat 1 cup of rice today and eat all the vegetables you want cooked and uncooked to your hearts content.

DAY SEVEN
Today your food intake will consist of one cup of rice, fruit juice and the vegetables you care to consume. Tomorrow morning you will be five to eight kgs. Lighter than one week ago.

If you desire further weight loss repeat the program again. Repeat the programme as often as you like, however, it is suggested that you rest for 3 days before every repetition. You have your system under control now and it will thank you for all the cleaning you just gave it. Even more than a diet program it is good to follow this diet once in a while to clean your digestive system and remove toxic substances that have accumulated in the system.

Additional Comments
The most important element of the program is the 10 tall glasses of water a day you can also flavour the water with some lemon to make drinking easier. While on the program, take only black coffee and never more than one teaspoon of oil. Preferably do not use oil because the high caloric content. No fruit juice before day seven.

HERE IS WHAT HAPPENS TO YOUR BODY WHILE YOU ARE ON THIS PROGRAM AND HOW AND WHY IT WORKS

Day 1
You are preparing your system for the upcoming programme. You only source of nutrition is fresh fruits. Fruits are natures perfect food. They provide everything you can possibly want to sustain life except total balance and variety.

Day 2
Starts with a fix of complex carbohydrates in the form of a boiled potato. This is taken in the form of a boiled potato and taken in the morning to provide energy and balance. The rest of the day too consists of vegetables which are virtually caloric free and provide essential nutrients and fibre.

Day 3
Eliminate the potato because you get your carbohydrates from fruits. Your system is now prepared to start burning excess pounds. You will have cravings which should start to diminish by day four.

Day 4
Bananas and milk. You are in for a surprise. You probably will not be able to eat all the bananas allowed. But they are there for the potassium you have lost and the sodium you may have missed the last 3 days. You will notice a definite loss of desire for sweets and you will be surprised at how easy this day will go.

Day 5
Rice and tomatoes. The rice is for the carbohydrates and the tomatoes are for the digestion and the fibre. Lots and lots of water purifies your system. You should notice colourless urine today. Do not feel you have to eat one cup rice. You may eat less. But you may eat 6 tomatoes.

Day 6
It is similar to day 5. Vitamins and fibre from the vegetables and carbohydrates from the rice. By now your system is in a total weight loss inclination. There should be noticeable difference in the way you look today compared to day one.

Day 7
You may celebrate with champagne. You may also have wine instead of champagne, but in all practical programs and in all surveys done to measure the success of the program.

More than one cup of coffee with milk is especially forbidden. Milk and oil add empty calories to your diet. Avid coffee lovers can console themselves with black coffee. However after the first week, it will help your digestion and set your stomach. The key thing to remember is that if you are hungry at any time, there you are not following the diet correctly. Almost all people give up the diet when they are hungry, because of the dieting. The secret of this program is that you should never be hungry. If it is a vegetable day, eat as much vegetables that you are never hungry. If it is the fruits day eat as much fruits that you are never hungry. You can take any amount of GM wonder soup on any day.

The following soup is intended as a supplement to your diet. It can be eaten any time of day in virtually unlimited quantities. You are encouraged to drink large quantities of this soup.

23 Oz. Water; 6 large onions; 2 green peppers; 3 tomatoes; 1 cabbage; 1 bunch celery, add herbs and seasoning as desired.

This program is highly recommended for women and men above 40 years age for whom excess weight is especially dangerous. Excess weight in women aggravates arthritis problem and leads to rapid joint decay. Pain and joint deterioration can be lessened by weight loss as weight loss removes the stress on the knee joint. Excess weight is the most critical factor in keeping good health and excess weight is responsible for the most problems including coronary disease, heart problems, arthritis and cancer among other serious life threatening diseases. Most serious health problems can be controlled by maintaining ideal weight. Daily exercise of 20 minutes is also essential. Do not tire yourself out but being regular in exercise and maintaining an ideal diet goes along way to ensure happy and healthy long life.

I was a bit skeptical of this diet....I can usually gain or loose wait pretty fast, but was unsure. I just started day 7 and have lost at least 8 or so lbs. This diet is a great and healthy way to loose weight as it gives you a new way to eat healthy. The only day that was tough for me was day 2. I felt weak (almost flu like) and didn't really eat that much. Went to bed early and woke up just fine. This diet is great and it helped and my girlfriend find new ways to eat healthy. By the way, on day 6, try a taco salad. Lean ground beef (cooked with just a pinch of taco seasoning, 2 diced fresh tomatoes, lettuce and a bit of taco salsa. It was great!!!!
#37 by dmyb31, Aug 10, 2008
P.S. This diet will work with no cheating!!!!! You can do anything you put your mind to and its ONLY 7 DAYS!!!
#38 by Gogol, Aug 11, 2008
I’m on Day 2. Yesterday at the end of the day I got a slight headache — could not drink all that water!
Others on Day 2 have you lost any weight so far? Those who are also on Day 2 and want to follow along with me for the rest of the 5 days, check out my GM diet experience on my blog.

best of luck you guys!

I'm interested in trying this diet, but I HATE raw tomatoes and they are a big part of day 5. Anyone have a suggestion about how to substitute something else for them? Or, could I cook them?
#41 by Abby, Aug 14, 2008
hey,

i am doing this diet and today i am on my fifth day, but all i lost is 1 kg so far. how can people loss 17 pounds with this diet? or it depends on the person's body????
#42 by Azi, Aug 16, 2008
I have been strictly following this diet for the last 7 days, exercising aerobics for 5 days (30 minutes each), but I only lost 6 pounds. But, my co-worker told me that he lost 15 pounds. I am a bit confused, but all I can say is may be it depends on your body type or metabolism.

Regarding your question (John Watts), yes, you can use Mangos and all other fruits except Banana for the fruit days (1st day and 3rd day).
#43 by Lak, Aug 17, 2008
This "diet" is a hoax. Any diet will work for 10 days; the key is whether it will keep the weight off.

I have done weight watchers for the past several years. I lost all I needed to and kept it off for 2 1/2 years. I turned 40 and did not follow as close as I should so...... I slowly gained about 13 lbs. I did the GM diet to jump start me agian. Lost 3 lbs. the first day and have lost a total of 7 by day 4. I plan to maintain the loss by going back on WW when done with this week. I love the Banana day.... Cut up and freez some bananas on night 3. Blend frozen bananas with ice, milk and some splenda...... SOOOOO GOOOD.
#47 by TMAC, Aug 28, 2008
I AM ON DAY 4 BANANA DAY...I HAVE ALREADY LOST 4 1/2 POUNDS AND I FEEL GREAT. IM GOING BACK TO WORKING OUT BECAUSE I NOW HAVE THE ENERGY TO DO IT. ALSO I HATE BANANA'S AND MILK BUT IF YOU TAKE IT AND PUT IT INTO A BLENDER WITH A CUP OF ICE(NOTHING ELSE) IT WAS GREAT. i DONT THINK IT WILL BE HARD TO KEEP UP WITH THIS DIET.

I am in day 5 and I exercise 30 minutes and walk thru my job every day about 8 hours walking standing moving around and i los t about 13 lbs I felt better and I will go on until i returned to my old me. on day 4 i supplement the soup for shrimp soup and nothing happen i ate my vegetables and 3 shrimps and nothing happen no gain.
#59 by Sanj, Sep 14, 2008
completed the diet 2 times now in the last 3 months... reduced in total 7 kgs.. GM is a good and an efficient diet plan.
one thing i have learned is that you need to watch what you eat once you have finished 7 days of dieting.. keep away from a lot of sugar, cholocates, fried...
not keeping the diet maintained and start to have fatty/junk food from day 8 onwards can lead to putting weight back again very easily...
also running, swimming and cycling can help loose an extra 1-2 kgs.

so, can this diet be done continuously after the initial 7 days; i am trying to lose 100 pounds total

Successfully completed this 7 days program and lost exactly 5 kgs .. nice program .. :-)
#64 by Natasha, Oct 1, 2008
I am starting the GM diet today. I just hate eating fruits, but have got apples and orange juice to have today. I know juices are forbidden, but its a freshly squeezed orange juice, so I guess won't be that big of a problem?
I wanted to ask that having the soup...is it really that important??? Can't I get away with eating lots of cabbage?? Plz suggest?
#65 by Rasna, Oct 10, 2008

#70 by rajiv, Oct 28, 2008
bad news - there is nothing like GM diet. GM has not approved it neither has FDA. there is no link with GM to it. bus naam padgaya hai to chali ja rha hai
good news - it works.. it does wonders... m on day one.. headaches of course come in the begining.. due to the blood suger level dipping suddenly.. banana day should make it fine...

cheers guys
#71 by luc, Oct 30, 2008
i did that once.
i dont go to office but i was already going to gym regularly .3rd day of diet ,i stopped gym as i lost all of my energy.
I dint feel like eating bananas whole day ,or rice-dry veg so was not eating even upto recommended levels and dint lose a pound like people saying lost 2 Kgs in 3rd day.then finally 5th day i lost my patience.
Even if its taking out body pounds, that is only because of starving and is not a healthy way.i had headaches and irritating feeling all the week.
#72 by lee2939, Nov 7, 2008
i started this yesterday and i swear to god i am 7lbs lighter today.
its an unreal diet plan.
100% reccommend it.

Hey I started this diet on Saturday (Nov 8) so far so good...have managed it without too many temptations except like 4 spoons of rice and a lemonade till now. Do u think I have mucked it big time or there's still hope for redemptions? No difference in weight till now?
Btw end of day 3 i had this craving for carbs, but got over with some veggies :(
Btw any substiute for bananas on the fourth day...i just hate them!
#75 by shobie, Nov 12, 2008

hey i need to start this plan frm monday, dont no how effecient its gonna b ,but im keeping my fingures crossed.
who os ever i've discussed bout this plan ppl ve been discouraging n v strongly suggested me not to go for it ....:(
but still il give it a try ....
wish me luck!!
jst one question .......is thr ne restriction on amount of salt n spices too??
#77 by Sheetu, Nov 17, 2008
Hey Sinni, good luck for your diet. Me too starting it on Monday for the second time. Just ignore other people\'s warning. If you follow it properly, you\'ll never have headaches or hunger pangs. Stick to the plan. Stock your refrigerator with all the veggies and fruits you can find. Don\'t skimp. Eat as much as you can of fruits and vegs. Don\'t cheat..
The first day is not easy as fruits are sweet and you would crave for salt. But you can have GM wonder soup anytime(I use lots of spring onion, coriander to make it tasty). Make a bowlful in the morning and whenever you crave for salt, have a bit of it. That will see you through the day without having to break any rules.
Never mind if you fail on the first day. Starting allover on second day is a lot easier because your body is getting into that rhythm.
A good technique to start dieting is to get mentally prepared by altering your diet 2-3 days ahead by substituting one meal with all fruit/salad.
During the diet I used to reward myself with a small chapati(no ghee) at night. It worked!
Strictly follow the water intake requirement. It keeps you feeling fresh.
For seasoning, use very little salt. As for the spices, within 2 days you\'ll become so fond of the natural freshness of foods, spices will repulse you.

#83 by Neetu Thakur, Dec 4, 2008
Hi,
If there is no substitute for banana then it means this diet plan will not work for me as seriously i can't have banana as i m having a elergy (skin patches). Please let me know the other option as i seriously want to start this diet program. And very important think: I am a mother of 9 months baby (Cesarean)so can I use this diet, I feed my baby only in the night hours as I am working also.

Please advise.

Thanks in advance.

i think neetu u can have apple instead of banana try this
#88 by Anu, Dec 16, 2008
Neetu,

If you are feeding your baby, don\'t go for the diet...
I would recommend you wait for few months before starting it.
You can cut down on sugar and start a little bit of exercise and that would help you loose weight.

hi ,

i have a 3 month old,and he is exclusively breastfeed.can i try this diet programme.

please suggest as im very confused.
#94 by Joy, Jan 9, 2009
Dont ever do the mistake of going on diets when you are breast feeding. All the nutrients are passed on to your kid thru your milk and you will produce milk only if you take carbohydrates, so please dont do it and run out of milk.
#95 by Miranda, Jan 11, 2009
My mom and I are on day 4. I am loving the bananas and (vanilla soy) milk. I love the soup. I have already lost 5 and she has already lost 10. I am feeling good and looking forward to chicken as I don\'t eat beef. SO I just read here about cottage cheese as a substitute -- anyone eat that or yogurt? My mom is struggling she also does not drink milk and she is still having some cleansing side effects and doesn\'t think she can drink the milk. I feel this diet has made me more conscious of what I am eating and what I should not be eating. I am a healthy eater, but I do tend to add too much of this and that and end up with a health high calorie meal.... Anyway I have enjoyed reading this board and will check back as I want to do this diet again!
#96 by Iresha, Jan 13, 2009
Hi everyone!

At first, i thought this was a Hoax cos it seems quite unreal. But all of you helped me make up my mind to try it. So me and my Best friend are gonna start it together from Friday. Hope it works as well as it did for you guys!

Cheers!
#97 by liss, Jan 15, 2009
My initial reaction to this was really absurd... But when i tried it.. Wow! it-is-really-working. To some out there who thinks it\'s not working, try to use natural food stuff, maybe some are consuming canned or processed stuffs. tho I lost 9 lbs. only, I am heading for my 2nd round again after a week break.
#98 by Don, Jan 16, 2009
I'm having doubts if I will loose 5 - 13 lbs. I'm on day 5 and have followed the program by the letter. I'm also doing cardio and weight training. I've only lost 1 pound and that was after day 1. What day will do you normally see the weight loss? I will continue and report my day 7 results.
#99 by JF, Jan 17, 2009
I'm on my 3rd day and lovin' it! Lost 4.0 lbs already. Can't wait for tomorrow... i love bananas a lot! Hope i could get through the 7th day without cheating. Need to loose 30 lbs. (not one time of course!) That will be a lot of work huh?
#100 by Miranda, Jan 17, 2009
I lost 5 lbs, My mom lost 12, my cousin is not done already lost 5 and my aunt lost 8!! We liked it! I feel more energized and have more will power and focus to do what my body needs -- loose some fat!!!!!!!!!!!

i lost 3kg in 7 day thanks to gm diet programme
#102 by Meera, Jan 22, 2009
My baby is six months old and i am still breast feeding him, i want to start the diet but i am worried if i would be passing on any toxic stuff to him because of this diet. He is usually happy with the solid food that he has, i am more worried about the quality of the milk rather than the quantity, will it be harmfull for him? Also on day 2 are we allowed to eat potatoes only during breakfast and on day 5 are we only allowed to eat 6 tomatoes and 1 cup of rice for the whole day?
#103 by Victor12@socal.rr.com, Jan 25, 2009
I will try this GM diet tomorrow and im determeined to finished it i want to lose some excess baggage im 220lbs and im 5\'8\" my target wieght is around 170 lbs - 180 lbs I will keep you posted guys!

for \"Meera\" dont do it while breastfeeding diet program is a big NO NO when breastfeeding! dont deprive your kid whith the vitamins and nutrients he/she needed.. just eat healthy foods and just do it when you think you dont have enough milk to breastfeed your kid.. good luck

yes , forgot to write, I took tea 2 times a day and 1 table spoon honey.
second day I took 1 cup of mung daal because I was not feeling well
#107 by need-an-answer, Feb 7, 2009
Hi all,

I am totally tempted to start this diet plan, however i cannot start my dat without tea with milk.

Could any one suggest if i drink 1/4th cup f tea with milk, will it totally screw up the diet plan?

-Thanks!
#108 by Geeta, Feb 7, 2009
when i did first time, I had tea 2 times a day with honey and milk.
First time I lost 5 lb. (2nd day I reduce 2 lb and 3rd day 3 more. that's all,after 3rd day no reduction.)

I'm doing second time, today is my 3rd day, I hardly lost 1 lb.
If I don't see any result tomorrow, I will quit.
#109 by Tanya, Feb 8, 2009
Hi Guys!!! Ive done this diet so many times before and trust me it totally works. I lost around 4 -5 kgs in a week. But i did exercise for 60 min daily too.
I did gain back the pounds later on . But it was only because of my bad eating habits. This diet rocks esp if you wanna look good for that party next week :-)
#110 by bm, Feb 8, 2009
i came down to 78 kgm from 84 kgm in 7 months by avoiding outside food and reducing snacks with my evening drinks. i know i will not put it on again as my lifestyle has changed on retirement. i have always walked/run an hour nearly daily. this diet may quickly take my weight where i want to be - 37 years back.

I'm watching my calories, I eat 1200 to 1300 calories and walking 40 min a day. I think I will lose, but take time.
#117 by Mili, Feb 10, 2009
Hi, I have been doing the same diet and am on day 4. So far I have already lost 10 lbs. For those of you who are wondering if it works, it sure does, but without cheating. If you are not into eating fruits and veggies it could be a little difficult. At the same time it helps learn the healthy way of eating and can keep on working to achieve healthier life style.
#118 by sarmad, Feb 11, 2009

#124 by GrannyCEB, Feb 22, 2009
I am 68 yrs old and started the GM diet four days ago. The banana/skim milk day was more difficult than any other, so far. I began at weight of 211 lbs and, this morning, weighed 203.4. Unfortunately, I have not been exercising except for \'stepping\' and hand weights due to severe arthritus, but have noticed that my knees are no longer painful so will begin a more rigorous routine on my second week. Also, have lots of energy, much more than before the diet.

A mixture of extra virgin olive oil, balsmic vinegar, fresh garlic and onion, lemon juice, black pepper, sodium-free salt, three packets of Splenda and grated orange rind makes a tasty dressing for the tomatoes or salad greens.

I made a seasoning of lemon-black pepper, sodium-free salt, garlic and onion powder, paprika, and italian seasoning and will use this on my hamburger which will grill on outside grill to keep grease free. A good addition could be Liquid Smoke.

I\'m looking forward to Day 7, when I will enhance the brown rice with button mushrooms, onions, and garlic and my seasoning. This will be delish with a side of tomotoes, romaine, onion salad with my special dressing.

I\'m giving myself a \'day off\' on Wed when the main meal will consist of baked fish fillets w/dill and one pat of Olivio. Think I\'ll add oven roasted potato spears, steamed brocolli and a container of 5 calorie jello. Then will re-start the gm diet again.

Keep blogging or anything that helps you to lose weight!

#125 by GrannyCEB, Feb 22, 2009
Hi, Nikki,
Have you considered skim milk with a few drops of strawberry flavoring? You will find the flavoring by the vanilla in your store.

Hi,

Can any one clarify meif i can i go ahead with my daily routine like gym and exercises when i am on this diet loss programme?
#127 by RR, Feb 25, 2009
Here is my recipe for the vegetable day. You are gonna love it.

heat half a tablespoon of olive oil in a pan and add 2 cups of green peas. Put a pinch of salt and black pepper n keep those aside.
Now cut some fresh cucumbers and baby carrots (loads of it) and mix these with the sauted peas
Its soooo yummmmmmyyyyyyy and really filling :-)) the day will go past like a breeze. I love this so much that I eat it as my lunch once a week :-))
#128 by RR, Feb 25, 2009
I start craving for sweets at the end of the day two and three :-( that's the hardest part. Besides, this is a great diet.
The most inportant thing is watching your food intake after the diet is done and over with. You can't hog on food when you get back...the weight is gonna come back.

Also, Beef, chicken and meat is high protein and low card. You cant substitute that with rice, which is high card. A better alternative is fat free cottage cheese.
#129 by Padma, Feb 26, 2009
Hi,

I started this diet 4 days back and today is my 5th day, feeling gud.

just want to know I am having tea 2times in the morning and evening, and little cheating( 1 or 2 spoon rice & dal). Will this spoil my diet?

I am doing exercise along with this for 30 min in the morning & for 45 mins in the evening, and then walking also for 30 mins. I am having 6ltrs of water also.

Have not weighed uptill now will check my weight on the 8th day.

Dear Friends,

I am 51.I am on day 7 of the plan.I lost 3 kgs from this programme until 6th day. Will share with you on completion.I felt slightly tired throughout the plan.May be the age factor ??.But honestly, it appears a good way of losing weight by developing healthy eating. The intersting part is you donot feel hungry like in many diet plans.
Good luck for those who are in and others who intend to start.

#139 by sara, Mar 13, 2009
You will loose weight, then gain it all back when the diet is over. Not smart. What I recommend works and is for life. I train 6 days a week for one hour. 3 days I do weight workout for building muscles and another 3 days cardio workout (usually small warm up and than 1 hour on treadmill).
I eat 3 meals with lots of veggies, fruits, natural juices like carrot juice, meat, even dark chocolate and bread. I don't eat potatoes, rice and noodles. I make sure to eat non-processed food and complex carbs at the beginning of the day. I am healthy, fit and happy. I used to be a couch potato thinking diets can work, only for the short time and than all the same. Change your life poeople, I did it and it is great.
#140 by Baizley, Mar 15, 2009
I tried this diet about two years ago, and went down one jeans size rather comfortably in a week. Spreading out the beef servings through all three meals really helps, and overall it really does a good job for cleaning the system out a bit.

It\'s a quick-fix though, unless you truly want to keep some variation of it as your regular diet, and it\'s especially challenging if you\'re not a big fan of the foods you\'re allowed to have. I didn\'t believe it would work, but It sure did.

#150 by Muggy, Mar 23, 2009
Hi all....Can someone please confirm!! Ive read on some sites that you can have the soup whenever you're hungry but on this message board I see people saying that the soup is for a specific day. Can someone PLEASE clarify this!! Im on day 1 and I had the soup for lunch!!
#151 by Tee, Mar 23, 2009
Hi RoberB

Good Job,can u please tell us the food that u had on each day?Did u do any excercise along with the diet if so what and for how long u used to do.u answer to this question will help us also help us to loose little more weight.
#152 by Tee, Mar 23, 2009
Muggy,

There are two types of diet namely Cabbage soup diet and gm diet. Both are more or less the same.In cabbage soup diet u can take soup all the seven days, but in gm diet i dont think they suggest soup. But both the diet are almost the same ecxept the soup intake. So decide which diet u want to follow and take the soup.
#153 by Parul, Mar 23, 2009
Hi.Today is my 1 Day..I started with eating lots of fruits..
Let's hope the best result...As i want to loose 30-40 Pounds...
#154 by RogerB, Mar 23, 2009
Sorry Tee, I can't recall what I ate on the first three days.
Day Four was as prescribed
Day Five I ate the 20oz of beef and the tomatoes, spreading them over three meals. Some of it was minced/ground beef which I made into a burger shape and cooked.
Day Six - Breakfast, Cold cooked beef; Lunch - Burger of ground beef with a side salad; dinner - went to a restaurant, had salad and then steak and vegetables.
Day Seven - Breakfast, Orange juice; Lunch, orange juice and salad; Dinner, Brown rice with some sauteed vegetables. I drank half a gallon of OJ during the day in total.

I did exercise five days of the week, running six miles (10k) on a treadmill each of those days.

Tee, Parul, since you want to lose substantially more than the average weight loss with the GM Diet, I hope you have a good plan for Day 8 too.

Hi
#163 by Shinu, Mar 26, 2009
Hi..I did it 3 time & found the remarkable results...but we need to maintain after its completion which is really very difficult. I have regained the same weight again in 10 days, but I have lost inches. Is anybody there who encounter the same?
#164 by CUTEGIRL, Mar 27, 2009
Hi,

Actually u will not be able to reduce totallyyyyy and if at all u reduce some lbs, u wil regain it once u r into ur normal food.. so, its better to have fruits and vegetable servings along with some chapati and little quantity of rice.. first i tried this diet, and lost around 3kgs and i heard that this should not be repeated continuously.. so i thought i cant do the same after a week, but within a week i gained 4kgs.. one kg in extra to what i lost.... i was shocked.. so now i am followin my own diet....
Morning- after brushin, havin warm water with honey and cinnamon mix
After one hr- havin green tea without milk and sugar
After one hr- having breakfast- a cup of Kellogs K or an apple
after two hrs- one more apple or a pear fruit
Then Lunch- a bowl of cabbage soup; one or two chapatis with green veg. side dish; with a salad containin raw carrot, cucumber, onion, cabbage with salt and pepper
Then in the evening- again green tea or coffee(with milk and sugar)
Then again a bowl of cabbage soup
Then dinner- one chapati with one apple
If i feel hungry in between, i wil have water to fill myself and also the soup or any fruits...
I hope this wil probably work out.. coz u can make this kinda food a routine in ur life and this wil keep u healthier and fitter.. once u start it, it might be very difficult wen u start.. but u wil get used to it.. in the meantime, if i go out sumwhere, i wil have a gud lunch or dinner, once in a while everythin wil work naaaaa.. aftr all v cant control ourselves toooooo much... Hope this was helpful.. Chao.. bye. TC. All the best for those who try thissss....... Ur comments r always welcum..
#165 by blindrunner, Mar 27, 2009
It does work, tried it and lost 12lbs and still continued to lose afterwards. because while on the diet I was able to eat foods that I normally wouldn't consider; And continued to eat when the diet was finnished. Instead of going back to my "NORMAL FOOD" because, isn't that what started it all in the first place?

#166 by CUTEGIRL, Mar 28, 2009
Hi,

People wil think about loosin some lbs and can go to "Normal Food" includin rice varieties and others like chiken varietiesss.. No one can leave chicken all of a sudden.. once in a while u r surely tempted to eat chicken.. so its better to have everythin in a small quantity instead of not havinggg.. Thats wat i suggesttttt..
#167 by Pulkit, Mar 29, 2009
Hi

Today I completed my 3rd day. Some1 motivated me to do this plan. I m doing this with my mom n dad. Till this day I havnt found any problem in following this plan. The plan should be followed willingly not by forcefully, if u have WILL power u ll do it.

I had few queries if u experienced ppl can tell me.

a) Day 4. we need to eat bananas . so is there any substitute if any1 doesnt likes them?

b) Day 5.. we hav to eat rice.. so we r told to eat 1 cup of rice.. is tht 1 cup raw rice or boiled rice cause 1 cup raw rice will make up to 2-3 cups. the author has mentioned tht today is feast day and also it is written tht \"Do not feel you have to eat one cup rice. You may eat less.\" So it means we can eat rice in comfortable quantity?

c) Can we take indian tea with milk n light sugar?

I m having fun with plan. I think its nt tht tough as we think. Even i cant say this cause i hav just 3rd day completed.

Please tell me abt ur experiences queries etc...

u may contact me at my yahoo id l_pulkit_l@yahoo.com

thnx

all d best to all
#168 by Smita, Mar 30, 2009
Hi,
I removed my gall bladder due to stones before 4 months so can i do GM diet plan.PL suggest me.Thnx
#169 by CUTEGIRL, Mar 30, 2009
Hi Pulkit,

I think there is no substitute for Bananasss.. even if u dont like it, u got to have it coz it supplies potassium to ur body dat is required the very particular day..if u r not able to have a whole banana as such, u can just cut it and dip in skim milk and refrigerate it.. just have it sum time latr..
And on day 5, u got to eat only one cup of boiled rice.. and if u r not be able to eat one cup, u can just quit once u feel u r fullll..
And u shdn\'t have dat tea wil milk and sugar.. wen u r in this diet plan, u can just have green tea without sugarrrrrr..
Do post how much kgs u burned by this diet once aftr u cumplete it..
Bye now. All the bestttt..
#170 by KING, Mar 30, 2009
Hey

i m on 4th day. tomm is my 5th day..... tell me clealy if i have to eat only 1 cup of rice in day... isnt it starving...
#171 by Pulkit, Mar 30, 2009
hi CuteGirl

Thanks for ur reply. Well I think 1 cup of boiled rice is too less. Once we r hungry from 4 days how can we imagine tht we even cant eat 1 cup rice at once. I think it wud mean 1 cup raw rice to be cooked n eaten.... Wat say?
#172 by beth xo, Mar 30, 2009
I am thinking of doing this diet and i am glad you asked the question about whether its one cup of raw or one cup of cooked rice.. i would think its one cup of raw which would make three cups of cooked becuase one cup of cooked rice seems ridiculously little
#173 by Simon, Mar 30, 2009
I have a question. On day 5, some plsces it says tomatoes and beef, and some places it says tomatoes and rice. which is it?
#174 by CUTEGIRL, Mar 31, 2009
Hi everyone,

Its actually u gotta eat only one cup of boiled rice.... coz for the past 3-4days u dint have carbs.. so to manage wit it, u gotta eat one cup of boiled rice..i wud suggest u to have it durin lunch time and follow up with the veg and fruits in the mornin and for dinner.. coz if u plan to have three cups of rice, one at each time, then no point in followin a diettt... moreover, u will not be able to finish even a single cup of boiled rice aftr followin this diet.. coz u wil feel full wen u have finished half cup of rice.. and then do not continue the remainin half latr..
and Simon, its rice for vegetarians and beef for non-vgetarians.. u can follow either way.....
I would suggest u to follow the CABBAGE SOUP DIET.. its the same of GM-Diet with the soup so dat u wil feel always fullllll... i used to have dat soup daily now a days..
I\'m attachin the cabbage soup diet plan belowwwww---

Cabbage Soup Recipe:

• 6 large green onions
• 2 green peppers
• 1 or 2 cans of tomatoes (diced or whole)
• 3 Carrots
• 1 Container (10 oz. or so) Mushrooms
• 1 bunch of celery
• half a head of cabbage
• 1 package Lipton soup mix
• 1 or 2 cubes of bouillon (optional)
• 1 48oz can V8 juice (optional)
• Season to taste with salt, pepper, parsley, curry, garlic powder, etc.
Directions:
Slice green onions, put in a pot and start to saute with cooking spray.
Cut green pepper stem end off and cut in half, take the seeds and membrane out. Cut the green-pepper into bite size pieces and add to pot.
Take the outer leafs layers off the cabbage, cut into bite size pieces, add to pot.
Clean carrots, cut into bite size pieces, and add to pot.
Slice mushrooms into thick slices, add to pot.
If you would like a spicy soup, add a small amount of curry or cayenne pepper now.
You can use beef or chicken bouillon cubes for seasonings. These have all the salt and flavors you will need.
Use about 12 cups of water (or 8 cups and the V8 juice), cover and put heat on low. Let soup cook for a long time - two hours works well. Season to taste with salt and pepper.

I DONT USE ANY SOUP MIX WITH THIS.. JUST HAVIN IT PLAIN..

During the first seven days you must drink 10 glasses of water each day.

Day One:
All fruits except bananas. Eat only your soup and all fruits you want. It is suggested you consume lots of watermelon and cantaloupe.

Day Two
Eat until you are stuffed will all fresh, raw or cooked vegetables of your choice. Try to eat leafy green vegetables and stay away from dry beans, peas and corn. Eat all the vegetables you want along with your soup. At dinner, reward yourself with a big baked potato with butter. Do not eat fruit today.

Day Three
Eat all the soup, fruits and vegetables of your choice. Any amount, any quantity. No bananas yet and no potatoes today.

Day Four
Bananas and milk. Today you will eat as many as eight bananas and drink three glasses of milk. You can also have the soup.

Day Five
Today is a feast day. You will eat 1 (one) cup of rice. You also have to eat 6 (six) whole tomatoes and drink 12 (twelve) glasses of water today to cleanse your system of the excess uric acid you will be producing. Eat your soup at least once.

Day Six
Today is another all vegetables day. No Baked Potato. You must eat 1 cup of rice today and eat all the vegetables you want cooked and uncooked to your heart\'s content. Eat your soup at least once.

Day Seven
Today your food intake will consist of 1 cup rice, fruit juice and all the vegetables you care to consume. Be sure to eat your soup at least once this day. Tomorrow morning you will be five to eight kilograms lighter than 1 week ago. If you desire further weight loss, repeat the program again. Repeat the program as often as you like, however, it is suggested that you rest for three days before every repetition.

Hope u all r clear now..... start the diet and post back soon abt how much u have reduceddddd...... ALL THE BEST.

#186 by bbbb, Apr 2, 2009
Hi All,

Please dont write and ask for ur problems alone, please share ur weight loss and other advantages and disadvantages of the diet also ,then only u will get replys
#187 by King, Apr 2, 2009
Hi Radhika

I have done this plan and havnt found any problem like such. The problem must b tht u have mis matched water with food. U shudnt intake too much water at once. Take water 10 times in day like say every hr take 1 glass. so u wont hav stomach problems. do tell if it helps.
#188 by CUTEGIRL, Apr 3, 2009

#197 by CUTEGIRL, Apr 11, 2009
Hi Friends,
aftr this diet, i was able to lose 3kgs.. but i expect to reduce atleast 5kgs.. no probs.. and moreover u wil feel more tired for the first two daysss... as i was sittin at home, i felt more comfortable.. but instead of followin this diet, i wud suggest you to eat only fruits and vegetables for a weekkk, as i have tried it and i was able to put down more than 3kgs.... coz u wil be missin ur regular tea/coffee wen u r in this diet.. i hope this information helps..
So cindyyyyyyyyy... u got any positive resulttttt???
#198 by k, Apr 13, 2009

#200 by thinktank, Apr 14, 2009
i am on day two. Day one wasn't so bad (besides running to the bathroom every 15-20 min).
#201 by thinktank, Apr 14, 2009
Hi babs,
How was your first day? I started yesterday as well. I ate a salad at 9 am this morning. I plan on getting another salad for lunch.
#202 by beth xo, Apr 14, 2009
thinktank..
i totally agree about having to pee every 15-20 minutes! i work at all call center and i kept having to take breaks because i had to pee so bad! i am on my veggie day and not enjoying it as much as the fruit day.. i just find it weird eating veggies for breakfast but otherwise i feel good and have enough energy to go for a run:)
#203 by thinktank, Apr 14, 2009
Beth xo,
I feel the same. Eating salad first thing in the morning is weird but otherwise i am good. I am almost convinced that i will make it all 7 days
#204 by thinktank, Apr 15, 2009
I am on day three. I don't feel bad but my energy level is not as high as normal. I'm at work and i want to goto sleep. LOL. On a positive not my boyfriend has already started to lose weight. Hopefully I am next in line.

I am on second day...so far its being good. But I have few questions
1. Can we season veggies with salt and pepper?
2. Day5: is it just 20 oz meat and 6 tomatos for the entire day? thats very little isnt it?

#206 by Jo, Apr 15, 2009
hey, on day 4 tmrw, is it only bananas and milk the hole day or is fruits n vvegetables part of it?
#207 by thinktank, Apr 16, 2009
Hey Jo,
It is bananas and soup
#208 by thinktank, Apr 16, 2009
Carrots,

#211 by Raj, Apr 16, 2009
I am on my 4th day, the Banana Day...its going fine...I am in night shift, I ate 5 banana in the morning..lets see how it works.

#212 by beth xo, Apr 16, 2009
question: can you eat meat on fri and sat? according to the official website it is not included? what is everyone else doing? i know having a little bit of chicken w/ tomatoes would make a lot more bearable! also when its say vegetable soup on day four does that mean the soup you can eat everyday or literally a vergetable soup from campbells or something?
#213 by Mahi, Apr 16, 2009
Hey, I am on my 2nd day, yesterday I had watermelon, didn't feel very good. Today I am eating, Salad, I bought spinach, cooked it with Salt and Pepper. So far, day 2 is going good. Not having much energy. Want to complete this and see how this works.
#214 by thinktank, Apr 16, 2009
Beth,
I am having chicken and tomatoes. I made the vegetable soup according to what's listed above. Wasn't bad at all.

#226 by Terri, Apr 18, 2009
I didn't see anything about soup in the 7 days. Did I miss something somewhere? I heard about this diet from my daughter and remember her saying something about soup at some point during the week. Any help here? Thanks! :) (btw...my daughter said she lost 7 lbs. in the week she tried this. I'm hoping this will give me a little confidence boost for my weight loss goals!)
#227 by Terri, Apr 18, 2009
Ah...just noticed the cabbage soup diet at the top of the page. It seems that that is a different diet, but similar to the GM diet as I read through it. I\'m not a cabbage fan, so I think I\'ll stick with trying the GM diet.
#228 by Liz, Apr 18, 2009
Thanks Raj!
#229 by Mahi, Apr 19, 2009
Day 4 was awsome. Enjoyed the banana, Milk and Soup. Had very high energy, was able to do some exercise too. Already lost 4lbs.
Day 4 today: Made tomato juice with 2 vine tomatoes for break fast. I am a vegetarian, so cooked whole channa (Carbanza bean), mixed it with tomatoes, 1/2 tsp balsamic vinegar, 1/2 tst lemon juice and pepper. Awsome. Enjoying this GM diet.
#230 by Terri, Apr 20, 2009
I'm starting today. Wish me luck!
#231 by Mahi, Apr 20, 2009
Good luck Terri. You may feel very tired today. Don't give up.

Day 6 today. Had half wheat bread toast, Cucumber, Carrots. Cooked light spicy curry with lots of vegetables for lunch. I am very happy with the results.
#232 by Terri, Apr 20, 2009
Is the soup only for day 4??? I'm confused.
#233 by Mahi, Apr 20, 2009
Yes. It is only for Day 4
#234 by Terri, Apr 21, 2009
Well, I got through day one. Mahi, I didn't see your post until this morning, so I talked with my daughter who'd already tried this diet and was told that the soup was for any day, so I went ahead and made it and had the soup along with the fruit and about a gallon of water yesterday. I weighed in this morning and was down 2 lbs. I think if I hadn't had the soup that I would have caved before the end of the day. As much soup as the recipe makes, I can't believe that it would be restricted to one day only. I definetly have enough for the rest of the week! Thanks for the support! :)
#235 by Jeanne, Apr 22, 2009
Hi All,
I did this diet back in Jan and lost 10lbs and kept it off in spite of my bad eating habits. I started it again, I\'m on day 3 and have lost 3lbs. The diet I came across allows for you to eat the soup every day, however on day 4 only 1 bowl, unlike unlimited for all the other days. Well good luck. Smiles,
Jeanne
#236 by Terri, Apr 22, 2009
I'm at the end of day 3 and have lost 4 lbs. after the first 2 days. I'm looking forward to weighing in tomorrow morning! (That's a first for me....actually looking forward to stepping on a scale daily!)Day 3 was a little better than the first two days as I was able to eat both fruits and vegetables. I'm not sure how thrilled I'll be about bananas, milk, and soup, but I've come this far...no stopping now.
#237 by Terri, Apr 23, 2009
Weigh in this morning showed another 2 lb. loss. Down 6 lbs. in 3 days. WOW! Had my first banana and glass of milk. Hmmm..bananas all day and limited soup. This may be a tough day.
#238 by Moha, Apr 23, 2009
Hi,

I wanted to ask whether this diet can be done during the menses?

Thanks a lot!
#239 by ILoveFlorida1121, Apr 23, 2009
Please be very careful with this diet!! My co-worker has been following it and had to be rushed to the hospital because her blood sugar and blood pressure dropped to dangerous levels. If you want to lose weight, do it the healthy way, join Weight Watchers or Spark People..
#240 by Mahi, Apr 23, 2009
I completed mine on 04/21. Lost 7 lbs. Whether this is good or not, one good habit I am going to follow is "eat healthy foods like vegs and fruits". I appreciate the taste of fruits and vegs better now. I am planning to start this diet again with soup on all days from next week.
Moha: You can follow this diet during your monthly cycles. No issues/problems.
#241 by Terri, Apr 23, 2009
Congrats Mahi!! Which day did you find easiet/toughest?
ILoveFlorida1121-Kudos to Weight Watchers. I lost nearly 70 lbs. with them and then gained most back (my own fault for not following a terrific program!) I decided to try the GM diet to give myself a motivational boost back into the game. I agree whole heartedly that losing weight the healthy way and making positive "livable" life style changes is the only real way to go. I still have about 35 to go, but I'm sure I won't be using rapid weight loss as a way to get there. That would be unrealistic for me. Great advice!
#242 by Terri, Apr 24, 2009
After day 4, down 7 lbs. total. I was looking forward to the beef, but wasn't as big a deal as I'd anticipated. I'm really getting tired of the soup, too. Just 2 more days after today and I'm not sure that I'll do this again. At least not in the near future. I'm looking forward to incorporating well balanced nutrition daily rather than cutting out entire food groups for days on end. The rapid weight loss is all fine and good, but not realistic for the long haul.
#243 by Moha, Apr 25, 2009
Hi,
I have started th GM diet today. Had only watermelon and water since morn. its close to 4 pm now. HAvent had any probs except headache.
Is chat masala or rock salt allowed on the fruits?
Thanks
#244 by Jason, Apr 25, 2009
Hi Guys/Gals
I know for many Ppl this GM diet works, but how many of them keep it off.
I have few friends who followed the diet relegiously and did succeed (ranging from 3-8lbs), depends on ur metabolism. But unfortunately u will gain all the weight you loose.
The thing is if you can\'t do certain thing continously and consistently nothing will help.
If weight reduction was so easy ppl would have lost 100-200 lbs in year, but guess not
Then to be winner for BIGGEST LOSER, you would follow the diet and win the competition.
To keep off your weight, is reduce your intake gradually, so your body get used to it, reduce salt, reduce sugar and exercise a lot and you can keep off the weight you lost.
But all said and done, this diet can be helpful like before going omn vacation, cruise, and before some party so as to look in good shape, but defintely long term.
There is no easy way to loose and keep off the weight.
#245 by jason, Apr 25, 2009
I meant this is not long term weight reduction, just to cheat a guy you gonna marry, or week before going on your date, or going on vacation
And after that gain all the weight back

Is smoking allowed in this diet plan

Hi,
Day 1 passed by without much trouble. I did have 1/2 cup weak tea with a 1/4 spoon honey and 2 almonds in between.

Day 2 is proving tough. Although i am a veggie lover and all but it is proving that i cant just eat veggies all day. My head feels a little numb. I had the boiled potatoes with butter n salt in morning with 1/2 weak tea. Had cucumber at 12.00pm and boiled spinach and soy with onions for lunch. Had anothr cup of tea at 6.00 pm. Am now eating veggie sambhar.

Hope tommorrow will be better. ins.

Dina: best of luck.
As someone once said, theres nothing u cant do if u put ur mind to it!

We decided to try this diet starting tomorrow. We are desprait to loose 20Lbs. by 5/16 for a special occasion and we should try hard. I learned about this diet last week and after dicussion we thought we give it a try. We will try it for one week and then try Atkins for another week to compare the too. Wish us luck and we will let you know how it goes. ok?
#251 by MBKAM, Apr 27, 2009
DO we have the soup everyday? Im a lil confused...
#252 by rob, Apr 27, 2009
I just started the diet, and after Day One, I lost 5 lbs.!!
#253 by Terri, Apr 28, 2009
I completed the diet on Sunday. Although I didn't stick to it 100% (The weekend, had a couple beers, but just 2 each day and they were MGD 64.) I still lost 9 lbs. I'm trying to stick to the water regimine as that really seemed pretty easy for me to follow and it's a good health habit that I'm confident I can maintain. Good luck to all!

I am breast feeding my baby who is less than a year, and I in Pregnancy gained as others. I told Doctor wanna follow this diet and she blasted me off, saying if u diet like this, how will your baby get necessary nutrients.
She recommended instead Eat Healthy food, which is rich in proteins, Vitamins, Iron and Fiber.
She is saying Dieting or Starving is not good for woman who just has pregnancy. Its not good for babies
I guess I will hold for year or 2
#255 by Bobby, Apr 28, 2009
I started with my wife on Sunday last: -

Night 0: Fruit Salad

Day 1: Fruits & lots of water. I cheated during lunch, but my wife has kept me on track after it. She felt very weak on the first evening with a headache.

Day 2: Salad, Soup, Avocado & Lots of water. We have lost a few pounds already, and hopefully will lose more during the week.

Hi,
I guess th diet works well for some and doesnt do so for others. I did loose some weight but it keeps on piling back as soon as i eat lunch or dinner. I am on day 6. Also does anyone know what is red polished rice? I went to the nieghbourhood mall and they say they dont have that or brown rice. Is it the same as basmati sela rice? Anyone>??
Thanks a lot.
#257 by Ash, Apr 30, 2009
Hi Moha
I had same problem, I did diet, I did loose, but after that I added back all I lost, Look like thos crash diet is no long term solution. I did just eat a regular lunch and dinner like 2 rotis, small rice and vegetables.

But Being of Indian ethnic, Its diffcult for me to resist Indian Food, and then on top we have GTG, Parties and all to attend.
I have decided to follow the planned routine like probably eat less and rather loose 6-7 pounds in very month or two, and keep it off.
I just don't wanna die, thinking I didn't enjoy my life eating all those yummy Indian food. Once in a while I like to go out and munch. Is it just me or everyone of you out there like that
Plz Respond
#258 by pri, May 1, 2009
i think the prob starts with the obsession with the weighin scale...guess we shud not step on it so often..check weight once in a month or week..and not look for daily changes..as these changes are extremely gradual...try relyin on ur the fit of ur jeans or some fav dress that was tight before cos thats the sign of toning up...this is just a detox diet for after that week of binging we did on a holiday or to get our system back in action...so i think it needs to b done just once a month or so..gud luck
#259 by AKG, May 1, 2009
Ash,

Well I guess it is a fact that, once u stop the diet u gain back the lost weight very quickly. The key is, once u reach ur goal weight..say u r 170 lbs...n wud like to be 145...follow the diet religiously till u reach 145...then start eating normally...u donn have to compromise on ur tastes at all...but be watchful from now on...once u notice that u r at 150 or 152...stop eating calorie rich n oily food...till u come back to 147 or so..basically u maintain a margin of +5 lbs...once u cross that...diet for a few days..n like wise...cos by this time u know how difficult it is to lose weight..hope this helps..

Hello all,
I checckedmy weight and became depressed. So have decided to try thr GM diet. But, once you start taking low calorie diet, your total energy expenditure should also go down. and so will your energy requirement. may be at somepoint, it will be like 1000 k.cal... I dont know how that be continued. So anyone has a consistent effect of this diet?
#261 by fat, May 3, 2009
Hi ,
my age 26. i am in day 2 can i follow this Diet to loose weight?is it for only age limit > 40?

#262 by Dr. SBK, May 4, 2009
This diet is a complete fad! You DO NOT burn fat but muscle and most of the weight lost is water. Any diet which makes you lose a lot of weight in a few days is not sustainable.
Ladies, you all beware - It can cause osteoporosis!
#263 by Gita, May 7, 2009
Folks, in the soup you can add the South Indian rasam power ( spicy), not the paster , it is powder. It tastes like having the rasam soup with vegetables.
#264 by mutiat, May 12, 2009
hello people can i substitute noodle soup without eating the noodles for the soup that combination makes me sick....yuck!
#265 by sudharshaw, May 13, 2009
Hi I did this diet and surely lost weight, more over there is a great thing that I have lost than the weight. I have lost the craving for oily un healthy foods. I am on day 8 and still don't feel of returning to my old eating pattern.
#266 by dr mrunalinni, May 14, 2009
hi, i have been reading all the comments , i followed the diet twice since march , lost two kgs previously then now on day four this time lost 1kg already. iam workingout in gym, doing cardio, i think if u follow the diet once a month then combine fruit as breakfast wth some protein, then lunch for salads ,sauted veg and some chicken or mutton or fish as protein, u can easily maintain the weight and loose more, one more secret is to eat every two hours, this way less chances of hogging or binging, iam feeling healthy no side effects, first time i had cold , this time diet is rocking , in my breaks between i had two parties ate normal food but didnt regain the weight i lost previously,it also make ur will power strong as u overcome giving in to things not good for u, have a great diet bye cya

Hello All,

This is great!!! I just came off the Master Cleanse (14 days) and lost around 15 lbs! I am worried about eating foods again because I don\'t want to start gaining the weight back, I want to keep losing... So I figured that I would opt to eat only fruits and veggies. Today I went to the farmers market and stocked up on all my fruits and veggies (ironically the bananas did not look good so I did not buy any). I am looking online tonight and ran across The GM diet which will go along with my proposed eating plan... Perfect! I have all the fruits and veggies minus the bananas.. so I will start tomorrow morning with my fruits. This should be easy I love fruits and veggies, the only day that will be hard for me is the tomato day and the milk day (the lactose really upsets my stomach) To be continued...

This diet sounds like the perfect recipe for losing weight... complex carbohydrates for energy and nutrients, which contains fiber to cleanse the intestines, , and water which is most important to move all the fiber thru the digestive tract, all with a calorie count that is second to none! Oh and don\'t forget exercise!

Dr. SBK: I am no Dr. but I do know that once glycogen is low then the body will begin to break down fatty tissue first... is this not correct?
#270 by savi, May 16, 2009
hi all,
i am on the second day of the diet.
A suggestion for veg ppl is when u take boiled vegetables with salt and pepper on the second day,add some fresh green mango pieces which gives nice taste ,and crispy too.
on day 2 ,u can also cook the spinach gravy as usual without oil and have it with either vegetables or cucumber.it vl be stuffy and give a meal finish:).

the first 3 days are tough to go.then the other 4 are easy.
all the best

Plan : Follow the GM Diet and Run for 30 mins and drink lots of water.
#273 by Ganesh, May 20, 2009
If it helps any, I am posting my journey so far.I am on day 5 now.

Day one with fruits, cantaloupe mostly, some apple and watermelon. Day two with baked potato, carrots and some cooked veggies (used two spoonfuls of non-fat cottage cheese to fry). Day three was a combination of the stuff on day one and two. Not bad at all.

I do drink coffee about 3-4 times a day, using some non-fat milk, hopefully thats not a harmful deviation.

Day four was bit tough, just bananas and non fat milk was not entertaining at all by the end of the day, so repeated the veggie formula (instead of the soup) from day two for a late night snack.

On Day five, instead of beef, I am consuming grilled fish/salmon, with some seasoning.I am downing couple of tomatoes with every fish meal.

My primary goal is to cleanse the digestive system which I have begun to experience from the third day. It feels great. Weight loss is a desirable goal, but I am more interested in finding which ideas I could embed into my lifestyle. One-Fruit-day-a-week appeals to me the most so far.

Will post again, after my ordeal.

Hello,

I am looking to start this diet next week. I have a question about day 5 - eating 6 whole tomatoes. When I eat too many tomatoes I have an allergic reaction. Is their any substitution for the tomatoes?

Thanks

Hi Everyone,

im actually on the 4th day of the diet (banana and milk day). this diet is not bad as long as you commit to it. i lost 3.5 pounds on the first day :)
#276 by Sweety, May 23, 2009
Hi
i m on my fourth day on banana and milk.i m feeling little bit weakness and having a headache.will it create problem ?
#277 by Kc, May 23, 2009
I am on my fifth day. lost about 2 kgs so far. i did make some alterations to the diet.

Day1: as prescribed. lots of melon, strawberries, oranges, apples. and wonder soup. I like all fruits , but it was hard to eat fruits the whole day. So in the evenings, i made a fruit salad (apples, pineapples, pears etc) and topped it with some chaat masala (believe it or not, it is very yummy, with a small pinch). (Chaat masala is a masala you can find in indian groceries , not very spicy but very flavorful)
Evening 4 PM headache ,very tired, slept at 7 PM
starting weight : 159 pounds (72KG)

Day2:Potato: Today is potato and vegetable day. So instead of having plain potato, i made potato curry with onions and chillies and green/red peppers. It was a very filling satisfying breakfast. Use the butter for the curry instead of the \"simple pat\" i tried to avoid red chillies, but green chilly is technically a vegetable :) I also had wonder soup.
evening 6 PM headache. slept early too(starting weight 158)

Day3 :i got bored with wonder soup. So i made a simplified rasam (tomatoes +garlic+black pepper+cumin) in a blender. add salt and this is the best form of soup. and this is very satisfying. Day three was very easy since we now have a choice of vegetables and soups.
today was a very energetic day. Idid not even remember i was on diet.I also soaked moong dal for day 5(starting weight for day 157)

Day4
super easy. ate 3 bananas and milk.I had to go o a B\'day party and i snacked around on the pakoras and naans and a bite of cake.
also drank plenty of water. this morning, i wrapped the soaked moong dal to sprout and left it it room temp (starting weight for day 156)

Day5 May23rd today. I will be having about 10ozof moong dal sprouts and some low fat cottage cheese.Lets see how it goes (starting weight (153.8....wow)
#278 by Fatcobra, May 23, 2009
Starting on the 25th!!

I\'ve read that some people lose more weight than others and this might depend on how much overweight one actually is. I\'m 46 yrs old, 6 foot tall (183cm) x 192 pounds (87kg) and about 17.5lbs (8kg) overweight. We\'ll see....

I am starting the diet tomorrow! I was wondering if anyone has found a good way to cook or prepare the tomatoes for day 5. I hate tomatoes but I want to stay strict on the diet for the week. If so please let me know!! Thanks!
#281 by Fatcobra, May 27, 2009
Days one and two went ok. I had plenty of fruits the first day but in the evening I was incredibly hungry. Didn't sleep well either. I've been dreaming of giant pork chops chasing me all night long. Day two I've spent on an airplane and brought some cooked green beans and small carrots with me. I hope the green beans are ok not being real beans. In the evening some boiled broccoli and cauliflower. Less cravings than the evening before but still not easy. At least the night went well... I decided to step on a scale only after the week is over but I definitely feel better and somehow lighter..

The correct GM diet is here:

http://www.iimahd.ernet.in/~jajoo/gmdiet.html
#285 by GM DIET, May 28, 2009
During the first seven days you must abstain from all alcohol

Hi
I did follow the GM diet and did loose the weight of around 7 lbs in week, and after that I started my regular eating habits, just as anyone would do, Lunch with 2 Roti and Rice and Sabzi and for dinner almost same, the thing is that I did gain back 3-4 pounds again.
Can anyone tell me if they were able to keep off the weight and not gain back. The thing is I am not big fan of eating Pizza, Indian Buffet and All Snack - although I can't stop it permanenetly, i will continue eating once in a while, But I do want eat normal Lunch and Dinner and keep off the weight.
I can't imagine me spending life just eating Fruits and raw vegtables
So Anyone Plz tell, how did u manage to keep the weight off or is it natural that you will gain back all the lost weight

HI EVERYONE

I am starting this GM Diet today.
Read tons about it, and I love fruits and Vegetables as I am a Vegetarian, so should be doable I think.
Nice to see many dieters doing it.
Today is my Day 1.
I am 150 pounds. Lets see how far I can go.

Pinky.

This is the second time I'm on GM Diet. Last time I did it, lost 12 pounds. This time on Day4 - Already lost 9 pounds.
Say NO to alocohol while you are on GM Diet.

I got a wonder soup recipe I tried and it worked great for me.
Add cut vegetables - celery, Cabbage, okra, brinjal, some onion etc to 500 ml of boiling water. Let them boil for about 20 minutes, add Sambar powder, little chili power (or green chilies), coriander powder, pinch of salt and let it mix for 10 more mins. It should taste better than Lipton soup mix.

Good Luck

#307 by sujatha, Jun 10, 2009
today is my third day, not reduced anything
i am following the diet perfectly
is this because of body metablosim ???
#308 by s, Jun 12, 2009
you're definitely not allowed butter on the GM diet plan, apart from the single (optional) pat of butter on the baked potato which MUST be consumed for breakfast on day 2. There are a lot of inaccuracies in this outline of the plan.

Hi everyone,

I had a couple of questions such as are there people who ''cheat'' during their diet? if so what do they eat?

And is it allowed to drink cappuchino or tea during the diet?

thnx in advance.
#313 by aaliya91, Jun 15, 2009
i started with this plan today.
what i want to ask is,
how do the resident indians out here prepare the vegetables they've got to it on day 2.
they cook it the way they usually cook their food and have it sans the chapati?? or boil it and season it and have it with chutney??

and the chicken on say day 5. do you prepare it with tomato gravy or have the tomoatoes separately as salad.
or boil the chciken??

thanks.
#314 by aaliya91, Jun 15, 2009
and for all the lucky people who've lost the pounds already,
what parts of the body did you lose the fat?? the arms, the area around the tummy?? thighs?? calves?? where
??
#315 by rczar, Jun 15, 2009
day 1 for me! the black coffee is not my favorite, but i'm afraid to have no caffeine. think it may cause a headache.

does anyone know...can you really eat the wonder soup anyday or just on day four with the bananas and milk?
#316 by Nitya, Jun 16, 2009
I started today, and have been doing ok so far. I ate an apple a pear and a whole box of cherries. Cut some honey dew for dinner and had a big bowl of veggie soup for lunch. I had about 3 cups of green tea with a little honey...just could not drink it plain(just too bitter). I also cheated with a tortilla chip and two salted pistas...shame on me!! Hope to keep up with the diet to the end.
#317 by Nitya, Jun 17, 2009
Today was day 2. Had a boiled potato for breakfast, then a capsicum around 10 in the morning. In the afternoon I had a salad with carrots, lettuce, cucumber, tomatoes and capsicum. Doing ok so far.

rczar: You can have coffee or tea but without milk and sugar. The diet says not more than one cup of coffee with milk. The soup is for all days. Not just for day 4. Good luck!
#318 by lathika, Jun 17, 2009
i think if you don\'t lose weight because you aren\'t eating enough. you have to eat to your hearts content. if u dont, u will not lose as much.hope this helps
#319 by Sharmi, Jun 18, 2009
I am on the 4th day, lost 4 lbs in 3 days. Not doing any exercise and I had Spinach soup on 3rd day as a veggie soup option. Will that affect weight loss? I understand sprouts can be replaced for Beef… any suggestions please
#320 by Sanjay, Jun 18, 2009
Sharmi,

I have tried GM diet before and lost around 6 lbs.

I too am day 4 with Bananas and Milk. I believe spinach soup is as good as veggie consumed boiled, so it is good to go and will aide in Weight loss. Even I plan to take sprouts on day 5(have done that before too) since protein is what is needed. Veggie version says rice but there is no rationale since rice is more of carbs. you can go ahead with sprouts.

It is amazing to see so many ppl doing GM diet. Three important things to remember:
1. Drink lots and lots of water.
2. Eat as much as you can - No starving. The more you eat, the more body feels that it needs to burn calories, so more weight you lose.
3. After finishing, if you do not control the food intake, then you may gain back all the weight (even more) since the GM diet created a void which gets filled. So, proper diet control and fitness is a must.

All the best for your weight loss.

:-)

Hi all, so I'm not alone:) 2nd day running. Still alive!! I feel so good, so fresh and an hour of power jogging really do wonders. Not werighing each day as I don't want to get discouraged. People around me already commented how fresh i look (maybe coz of all that water I'm finally drinking lol)
so thumbs up for everyone on 2nd day
#324 by sasha, Jun 22, 2009
This diet is a diuretic.....the weightloss is attributed to the loss of water from the body. If anyone has actually lost inches please tell!
#325 by priya, Jun 24, 2009
Hi all, I am starting the diet today.. Day 5 looks more tough. I don't like tomatoes. Is there a substitute that I could use. Please suggest
#326 by Medha , Jun 28, 2009
Hi guys..u've got me all inspired but I am addicted to skimmed milk in d morning...though without sugar..
Will I have to skip it?
#327 by rajiv, Jul 1, 2009
well,me too have joined the gang, though previous experience was not very positive but atleast it ensures abstinence.good luck to you all.
#328 by meg, Jul 2, 2009
hi all
these posts are good fun and thought i should contribute.
i am on round 2 on the GM diet...last time(first week of may) i fell off the wagon on day 5...could not handle it anymore...after the first round though, i was motivated to watch my diet and eliminated all carbs from my evening meal (the diet had prepared me for this)...since then had lost 6 kilos. i decided to do another round when i stopped dropping the kilos. am now done with day 4 (milk and bananas- not so bad) and will go to day 5 tomorrow. this round have lost 2.5 kilos so far. but i am not doing the soup at all. it tasted yuck when i tried last time. also doing the rice tomorow. i did not know about the fish and chicken option till i found these posts. but will stick to the plan and see what happens.
