One thing is sure. Being thin is in fashion today, but is it really healthy? Well, it all depends on how thin you want to be.
Fashion shows are full of anorectic and bulimic models. Super slim women stare at us everyday from the covers of most magazines trying to convince us that thy represent beauty and it makes us feel we don't measure up. Did you fall into this trap? I got good news for you. You don't have to be thin to be healthy, and being healthy will make you truly beautiful.
Make health your primary goal. Determine how much weight you should lose according to the currently most popular guideline for healthy weight, BMI (Body Mass Index).
You might discover that you don't have to lose too much or nothing after all!
It is also possible that you are underweight if you are particularly obsessed with weight loss. A BMI under 18 poses greater health risks than being overweight. In some cases it could even end with death. People with such low BMI have very weak immune system. Their body cannot effectively defend itself against disease, so they get sick easier and more often.
People with BMI over 25 are considered overweight while those with BMI over 30 are obese. Most health professionals recommend BMI of 22 as ideal for optimal health; however, if you have a muscular body type like mine and do strength training on regular basis, your Body Mass Index might be slightly above 25 without posing any health risks to you.
It is also important to take under consideration your frame and body buildup. I have a large frame, muscular body of 5 feet and 4 inches. I can never weigh 110 pounds!
People around me would never guess that I weigh 150 pounds because despite of this I look slim. Set realistic goals and never compare yourself to anyone else.
And most of all don't let media tell you what you should look like. Decide yourself and get your health with fine looks as your lifetime reward.
All the best!
