All high fat diets emphasize the importance of eating enough eggs. To the point that many people associate this kind of diet with just eggs and bacon... Although this is not true, admittedly eggs play an important role in a balanced diet.
To simplify things when I am referring to eggs I mean chicken eggs. There are other kinds of eggs available, however as I am not a connoisseur of these, this article will not refer to them.
So Why are Eggs So Special?
For one thing you can prepare them in many different ways. And while this might sound like a strange argument, the reason behind it is, that they not only look different, but taste different depending on the preparation method. Furthermore they are digested slowly or quickly depending on the cooking method.
To list just a few varieties:
- hard boiled eggs - good for any kind of dieting
- soft boiled eggs - these can be tough on your stomach, so should be avoided in the evenings
- scrambled eggs
- sunny side up
- diced in a salad
The second big reason is that eggs are rich in many different substances which makes them full of nutrition. This is due to the fact that one egg is supposed to be the sole source of food for a growing chick. A nice breakdown of egg nutrition can be found here.
Things you might not know
An interesting fact about eggs is that although you can eat them raw, the bio-available protein raises from 51% to 91% when the eggs is cooked.
Most eggs we consume these days will be unfertilized and there is quite a strict selection process at modern farms. However there would not be much nutritional or taste difference if the egg was fertilized.
There are many ways for hard and soft boiling eggs:
Boil water, and when it reaches boiling temperature put the eggs in. After 4-4.5 minutes the eggs will be soft boiled, and 5-6 minutes they will be hard boiled
Put the eggs inside a pot with water. Start boiling - after 11 minutes the eggs should be soft boiled.
Eggs can come in different colours, as well as the yolk inside them. The colour will greatly depend on the chickens diet and lifestyle.
