How to lose weight Permanently and stay slim.

This article describes ways to lose weight. It offers a rational explanation for the myths which rationalze weight gain.

Many people who want to lose weight and stay slim seem to read the wrong articles, focus on the wrong things and end up with the wrong result. If you want to loose weight and believe that you have a metabolic disorder you only need to read the first half of this article. If you then believe you still have a metabolic disorder then you will need to treat your underlying disorder and hopefully your weight problem will go away without any other intervention. If this is not the case such individuals need to rethink about their reasoning.

One of the basic laws of nature is that matter (or energy) can neither be created nor destroyed. Of course scientists have been able to destroy the atom and produce what we ordinarily know as atomic power or nuclear power generation. So, if you believe that your body is making you fat because it is making the fat out of nothing you are “not facing the truth”. Many marketing companies are making a fortune paddling this line of reasoning. It is a myth. They do not want to tell you the truth because they will lose money. Each time you go and see your doctor, either you pay him or your government pays him or your employer pays him. Why will he want to tell you that “you will only lose weight if you eat less”. He wants you to keep coming back to him so that he gets paid.

I agree that some people have slower metabolic rates than others. These individuals also have lower heart rates, lower respiratory rates, lower body temperatures, lower energy levels and usually feel more tied than other people. Such people, therefore, also feel less hungry because they need less energy. The bottom line here is that if you really have a low metabolic rate you probably have the signs and symptoms described here. If this is indeed true, you must see your doctor and get your thyroid function tested. If you suffer from hypothyroidism you may need to be on thyroxine and your doctor will be able to assess the need for this medication based on the amount of thyroxine that you have circulation in your blood. This condition is common in landlocked countries where the consumption of sea foods is low. In many patients the causes are unknown. In medical terminology such causes are called, “idiopathic causes”. This does not mean that if you live by the sea you will definitely not have it.

You have now read the first half of this article. If you believe that you have a metabolic disorder you need to stop reading this article now and go to your doctor. Get your metabolic status checked out. If you do not, your live expectancy will be shorter and you will continue to believe that you have a metabolic disorder. You will actually convince other people that they have metabolic disorders and are therefore fat or obese. Good Luck and best wishes with your treatment. If it turns out that your thyroid function test is normal please come back and continue with this “genuine article”. It is the only way to honestly lose weight.

Individuals who have normal metabolism and people with corrected metabolic rates are encouraged to read this article. Please remember that no single intervention will work or has worked. We, human beings, are the products of our genes and the environment. So, both the psychological and biological factors have to be considered and acted upon.

The reason you are putting on weight is because you are consuming (eating) more than you are metabolizing (burning / respiring/consuming). People who work in hard labor types of jobs need to eat more and must eat more than people who work in office type jobs. Such people will lose weight if they do not eat enough. Let me give you an analogy. If you put in a certain amount of gas in your car it will only give you a certain amount of energy to get to a certain point. If you put in more gas you will get more miles. Whatever you do not use is saved. For example, on Tuesday, you ate 2500 Calories. You only used 2400. You saved 100 for the next day. However on the next day your Aunt came to visit and both of you went to a Major Restaurant and had milk shake and a beef burger. OOPs, you went over the calorie count again. So gradually this builds up. Conclusion: Do not over eat, even by small amounts, it all adds up over the years. Result: Fat and ugly looking individuals like you and me who are very sick and predispose ourselves to hypertension, diabetes, heart attacks, and strokes.

Will exercise help you loose weight? The short answer is, “no”. Yes, I know that your doctor said that when you exercise you lose because it will burn energy. Yes the underlying principle is correct. I do not have any problems with it. Let us look what happens. You exercise, you burn up calories, your blood sugar goes down, you feel hungry and you eat. You rightly believe that you have exercised. Indeed you have. Yes, the exercise will make your heart beat faster, burn more calories and make you hungry and therefore you will eat. If you end up eating more calories than you have burned you will end up putting on weight. So the secret is to eat less even though you have exercised. Remember, your goal is to loose weight. You need to burn more calories than you consume. Conclusion: Do not over eat just because you have exercised. Result: Weight loss will only occur if you burn more calories than you eat (consume).

In the modern world most of us have surplus food, stored in our fridges and cold cellars. We eat whenever we are bored. We really need to train our bodies to perceive if we are really hungry or not. We need to avoid walking up to the fridge and having a snack because we are bored. The net result of multiple snacks is obesity.

Is there a relationship between Cigarette smoking and Weight gain. Yes, there is. Does this get you off the hook? The answer is “no”. Ultimately, you are responsible for your health. If you put the food in your mouth, you will put on weight. Cigarettes depress one's appetite but remember you control the food intake. So it is up to you to say “no” to food.

Some individuals tell me that they only eat “carbs” (fancy name for carbohydrates / starchy foods). Therefore they will not put on weight. This is a myth. It is true that the body is able to convert carbohydrates into glycogen to be stored in the body for usage when needed but it is also true that the body converts carbohydrates into fats, and make you fat.

To lose weight you must eat less than what you burn. The theory that you have a metabolic disorder is probably not true. Listen to you body, do not eat just because you are bored. You will save money, quality of life and live longer than your obese friend. It is a myth that fat people are more jovial. The truth is that they are more pre-diabetic and are time bombs for heart attacks.

Good Day Anne,
Good Day MindIT,

Sorry for the delayed response. Feels good to note your comments. I was away on a Teaching assignment.

I do not have scientifically accurate data which I could use to support my arguments. So the following views are essentailly \"observations\" and indirectly drawn conclusions.

MindIT - The following is my observation. I had parents, grand parents and relatives who grew up in India. If you look at the recent history of India you will note that India used to be very poor and many people died of starvation. Also, try and recall part of Darwn\'s Theory, \"if a stress does not kill you, it will make you fitter!\"

Many of my \"thin, poor relatives lived long lives.\" Lack of energy did not make them weak or lethargic. Most of them had more energy than myself. Many died from infective conditions as opposed to vascular conditions. Question: Is it healthier for our arteries to be carrying less foods (carbohydrates, amino-acids, glycerol, lipids etc.) around?

I do not dispute the importance of a \"balanced diet\". However, the following are some of my observatins! If you have some time please consider reading about the \"PHA 4\" gene. There are some studies which show that undereating by 20 % actually increases life expectancy.

To some extent a balanced diet is important. However, please note that our body is able to change some proteins into other protens which are needed but are not available from foods.

Last but not least, \"undereating\" increases \"insulin sensitivity\". In other words the body becomes more efficient when there is less available food.

Available research suggests that \"insulin sensitivity\" leads to longer life.

This is a long topic, there is no end in sight so I will bring this matter to its \"unnatural end.\"
