There are hundreds of crash diets out there, and each of them claim to be able to effect a miracle; they will help you to lose all of your unwanted weight in a very small amount of time, thereby guaranteeing that you will be able to hit the beach three weeks later proud to show off your new, slim form in a bathing suit. Guess what? They're lying! Most of these diets and diet products are actually going to do very little to help you to lose weight, and those that do place an unhealthy amount of strain on your heart and your kidneys as they attempt to work overtime to speed up your body's processes and keep up with the effects of the drug.
So if none of these diets and dietary supplements help you to lose weight, what can you do? How are you ever going to be able to show your face at your high school reunion next months before you've lost the extra five to ten pounds you're carrying? The good news is that there is a perfectly safe way to lose five to ten pounds in six months; you are just going to have to be willing to work for it!
- The first step to losing weight quickly is to examine your diet. If you really want to lose weight quickly you are going to have to change the way you eat. The first thing you need to do is throw all of the candy and sweets in your house out the window. If they are there they will only call to you to eat them, and sugar quickly turns into fat. If they are not underneath your nose you will find resisting them much more quickly.
- Stop eating out! Although you may not always eat dessert when you go out, the majority of the food (particularly that which is served in a fast food restaurant) that you eat away from home is high in calories, sugar and fat, all of which is incredibly detrimental to your dietary success.
- Eat lots of green veggies. Many of these actually have negative calories, which means that your body has to work harder and burn more calories in order to digest them than they contain. Beware! You are not going to get the same effect from corn or carrots, so hold off on yellow and orange veggies until you have lost the initial weight you wanted.
- Drinking water is going to be the single most important component of your weight loss campaign. Water has no calories and serves to keep your body hydrated and flushed, encouraging the fats and calories you take in to continue on out rather than building up and causing you to gain weight. Remove the soda and juice from your house; water, unsweetened tea and black coffee are going to become your drinks of choice.
- Purchase a copy of The Sonoma Diet and follow it for the first ten days; this will help you to break yourself of your addiction to sweets and get the weight loss process started.
- Exercise, at least a half an hour every day. Aerobic exercise, that which gets your heart beating faster and your body sweating, will go the farthest towards helping your body to burn excess calories.
- Mix your exercise routine up. If you run for a half an hour every day it is eventually going to begin to lose its effect on your body, leaving you struggling to lose that last five pounds. Try dancing one day, jogging the next and swimming the next. Not only will this ensure that you lose as much weight as possible, it will also help to tone all of the muscle groups in your body; firmer muscle tone equals higher caloric burn, which is why people who work out often can eat as though they haven't eaten in days without gaining so much as an ounce.
Keep in mind that most drugs on the market are extremely detrimental to your health in the long run, as are most fad diets, and you will very rarely keep off the weight that you lose. If you can follow the steps above, however, you should be able to enjoy a slimmer body and firmer muscles in a matter of weeks!
