Obesity treatment drug with Rimonabant (Acomplia) available in Great Britain

For people with extreme obesity, the treatment with Rimonabant recently got a European approval.

In Great Britain there's a new medicine against obesity on the market that achieves a remarkable decrease of the body weight and the waistline. The substance rimonabant in this medicine sees to it that the user is feeling less hungry. Rimonabant is available at the pharmacy under the brand name Acomplia. For people with extreme obesity, the treatment with rimonabant recently got a European approval.

The manufacturer of this promising weight reducing product is Sanofi-Aventis. People who wish to use this product,

are obligated to take this drug on a daily basis and have to be prepared that the costs of using this medicine will be approximately 80 Euros per month.

From the results of clinical tests with 6,000 participants in Europe and the United States , it appeared that half of the participants approximately lost 5% of their body weight after a treatment with rimonabant. A quarter of the participants even lost 10% of their body weight after a treatment. Combined with a diet the results could be even better.

Rimonabant is part of a new class of medicines, the CB1-blokkers. CB1-blokkers influences the hungry feeling as well as the dependence of nicotine. Because recently rimonabant was also studied as an aid with helping people to quit smoking and the medicine even showed some positive results in this study. However rimonabant isn't yet approved by authorities as a medicine which makes it possible to quit smoking.

My mother has been using Acomplia for a while now, after a life time of unsatisfactory radical dieting and weight loss and gain cycles. She is now enjoying a much improved quality of life.
